Question about charging the S9

I just got the new Galaxy S9 phone and have been having issues charging it. It came with a fast charging wireless charger as well as the regular charging cord. Now, my issues is that the wireless fast charge charger doesn't seem to want to charge my phone when I am using it. Neither does the charging cord. Seemed to me that the old galaxies used to charge even when using it. I upgraded from an S5. It also takes longer than it it should to charge even when using it. I want to know whats going on and if there is a fix. Yes, the fast charge is turned on in settings and yes I am using the cords that came with the wireless charger and phone. I don't know about the S9 but I'm 99% sure the S8 and older only fast charged when the screen was off and the phone wasn't in use

Good article here about all the fast charging standards. Samsung's Adaptive Fast Charging does indeed slow down when the screen is on.
