Question about customizing GN

I bought my Mom the iPhone at the recommendation of the VZW guy. However, it is too confusing for her. She keeps thinking Safari is Siri because they both begin with an "S" so she can't keep them straight. **sigh**

My question is about customizing the GN. I would like to be able to have buttons on the home page that with the touch of a button, dials the number of a particular contact or pulls up the text screen with the number of the person she wants to text and already has the microphone on so she can speak her text. As an example, there would be a button that is called "Call Betty" on the home screen and all she would do is touch it and it would dial Betty's number. And then there would be a button on the home screen that is named "Text Betty" and all she would have to do is touch it and up would come the text input screen with the microphone already turned on so she could start speaking.

Could I do that with the GN?

For the calling, yes.

For the texting, it will instantly start a text to that contact, but she'll still have to tap the microphone on the keyboard to initiate voice texting. Alternately, she can tap the microphone on the Google Search Bar and say "send text to <contact> (short pause) <message>" and it should accomplish it just fine.

The shortcuts are under the widget section in the app launcher (Direct Dial and Direct Message)

I hear you. It certainly would be easier for me since I have to teach her and hear here complain about the phone. But she needs the voice recognition to text since she would never be able to use a tiny QWERTY keyboard.
