Hello everyone

From giving administrator permissions to Island application I'm getting this problem when I try to turn on developer options

Is there any way around it

Thank you for your helpScreenshot_20240703_115105_Settings.jpg

Try going into settings>device administrator and turn it off for that app and see if you can set those restrictions
Okay I'm going to give it a try

The only suggestion I'm getting is uninstalling the application that doesn't really work for me

I have a feeling that solution for this problem could be in the application itself but it's not there sadly

I think you'd have to contact the developer about that: play.google.com@public.oasisfeng.com

The app is still listed as "Under Development", so there's bound to be some bugs. Now is the time to contact the dev, since they're presumably awaiting feedback from users to see what they need to fix.
Good idea I contacted him a couple of days ago but apparently he is not available

Last time when he was online on XDA was like 2021

Almost impossible to come and touch with him even on GitHub

Do you see that app listed under device administrator and active

The island is application like shelter that isolates certain applications that is creating problems in this case by hijacking administrator permissions preventing me from turning on developer options
Thanks , can you link the play store link , I like to learn a little more about it to better help you ? You installed this correct?

If I'm looking at the correct app in the Play Store, Island sets up a work profile on your phone, using the same abilities as what companies use for their company phones for the workers. Blocking developer mode is probably a required restriction for work profiles that can't be bypassed.

I tried to link the one in looking at, but I don't have the share option (maybe because it's considered early access?). It's Island, by Oasis Feng. A search in the Play Store for "Island" brought it up as the top result.

I would like to do it but I'm in early access so Google Play store doesn't allow me to share the link
The application icon is basically orange Island there is only one application with that name

Thank you for your help

The developer is Oasis Feng

Exactly what the application is doing is basically creating work profile parallel to your main profile
I use that profile to hibernate certain application especially those which are constantly starting in the background like for example Google Photos
That improves your battery and that improves your performance severely up to an extent I cannot even recognize my phone anymore

Actually that totally makes sense
It could be the developer options being restricted because of the work profile itself not application necessarily

I guess the only choice I have is maybe trying on some other phone to see how it is going to behave
I have lots of information in the island so I'm afraid that it could disappear if I want to experiment with removing the application to see whether the developer options are going to be unlocked unlocked

I wonder how much of that is a placebo effect. Android by design wants to keep memory full. Keeping applications initialized but dormant in the background saves on battery use compared to keeping everything fully closed until actively using them. If you don't want to use Google Photos, then you can disable it without using these kind of hibernation apps. The same is true for most pre-installed apps, and some should even allow you to completely uninstall them.

As for the thought of losing data, backup anything you want to keep before you go messing around with things.

I'm using Android for more than 10 years and I can tell you that it is hardly ever comparable with the performance that iOS is giving
The closest I can come to performance of iOS is technically isolating or basically freezing these background applications knowing that most of them really have that effect of still working in the background even if they are technically limited by battery optimization for example in Samsung

It is not actually placebo effect I'm sure it's not because the benchmarks are different the overall snappiness and the speed of the system is totally different
I'm sure that as a developer you know about the policy of lots of applications working in the background that Android is supporting and I personally don't
Especially when it comes to applications that I hardly even open like for example I don't know Quora or mobilism as an example
Some applications that are still working even when you close them they still somehow appear and task manager even if they are battery optimized

I would like to back up but you know yourself that without root access it is impossible to access /data so until I'm ready to take the risk or until I get the answer from the developer or some kind of update I guess it is going to stay like this

In the meantime I was talking to a couple of developers and they told me that work profile shouldn't be influencing developer options even though I still think that was a good idea from your side thinking that it actually does
And personally I think it does I think that work profile is necessarily limiting your developer options

For starters, I'm not a developer, and neither are the vast majority of members here. This is just an enthusiast site with no direct ties to Google or app development.

Back to your app concerns, you mentioned Google Photos before, and now Quora and Mobilism. Photos can be disabled as I already mentioned, possibly uninstalled depending on your phone. Quora is a third party app that should be able to be uninstalled completely. Mobilisim looks to be an apk hosting service of questionable reputation and known to host modified apps (which is a topic not allowed to be discussed here), which should allow you to uninstall their app as well.

Or are you saying you do occasionally want to use these apps?

It may also help to know which device you're using. Modern mid tier and flagship phones shouldn't be having the kind of performance issues you are prior to running Island. That sounds like a bottom tier budget phone problem, which no one should expect to work as well as an iPhone in the first place.

Is this your work phone or personal phone? Could you use a separate phone for work and personal if your employer requires the work profile that doesn't let you use certain apps?

I'm sure that is a matter of experience whether certain devices can work better or worse depending on their price
Yes I am on s24 ultra and I can guarantee that performance is way better while having these isolation mechanisms implemented like I'm doing with Island

When it comes to applications in the background they can still be active in the background as mentioned here

I have both Android and iPhone
The closest I can actually come to iPhone performance especially high tier devices is by using some of these installation mechanisms otherwise lots of applications are working in the background making everything harder

It is my personal phone
Work profile yes that is basically the core mechanism how island application is working
Of course we are only assuming that I think I'm going to wait for the answer of developer himself but I still don't have accurate information whether turning on work profile can influence developer option triggering
Some people say it could some people say it doesn't but if it does I guess that is a solution for my problem

I don't have any Samsung phone close to myself to try using work profile on and see whether that is going to trigger ability to turn on developer options itself

I use package disabler pro for all my Samsung devices over the years , look into it , you can disable/enable applications or apps on the fly
