Question about S View Cover

Anybody using the S view cover, I have a question. Obviously the cover covers the LED notification light. when in S view mode, does the phone do anything to replicate a notification light or do you have to open the case to check to see if you missed anything?

You can press the power button while the cover is closed to light up the notification screen, otherwise opening it is the only other option

Not loving this s view cover. It takes away two of the hardware advantages of the GS4. The home button and notification light. Am I missing something?
