I'm thinking about buying my first smartphone the HTC Incredible.

I have a question about Sense UI widgets.

When these widgets are running, I assume they are gathering data. When its running, is it using my cell minutes? I'm on a shared family plan with verizon and have a limited amount of minutes.

Also when I launch an application it uses my minutes correct?

Sorry if these are stupid questions...I'm an old man trying to learn some new technology.

Thanks for your help

The only thing that will use your cell minutes is phone calls.

I'm pretty sure the only plan that Verizon will sell you for the Incredible will have unlimited data use, so there should be no extra costs involved.

To be safe, affirm this with whomever you speak to about buying your phone.

Nice choice BTW, and welcome to Android Central.

+1. Verizon will require a $30 unlimited data plan. The widgets (and any applications that uses data) work using unlimited data (or WiFi, if you are connected through a WiFi hot spot.)

The only time you would have to worry about data charges is if you are roaming internationally where there is data support (i.e., Canada, Mexico, some Caribbean islands), but there is a setting to not access data while you are roaming.
