Question about service from phone to phone

Hi, all.

So I'm interested in switching up my service over to VM. Currently, I'm on AT&T's prepaid service using one of their GoPhone messaging phones.

My current phone is as dumb can be. I thought I'd be stuck with this curse due to a lack of real options until I discovered VM and it's amazing $25 plan.

Now, here's my situation: my options at the moment are this:
  1. Buy an LG OV from someone I'm trying to work out a deal with for $95 around the 19th and wait until then to start my service
  2. Wait for the Triumph's official pricing/reviews before I start my service with VM then possibly go with that or an LG OV.

Now, let's just say that I do either one of these. My problem is that I've been hearing news about a rate hike on VM's plans going into effect around the time that I'll be able to take action, particularly I'm worried that the $25 plan is being raised up to $35. I realize that it's only 10 dollars more, but if I can avoid having to deal with this, then that'd be money well saved for other things down the line.

One of my family members is currently in possession of an old, unused VM phone. If I were to, say, activate this one now with the $25 plan, would I be able to easily transfer the service over to an LG OV/Triumph at a later date while still preserving the $25 rate? Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciate.

Thanks! :)

The $25 VM plan for someone like you that is coming from GoPhone service is such ridiculously good value. In your case I would go with the Optimus if you get it for that price. You will experience a great Android phone if all you have been using are basic phones, it will be more phone than you need really. Especially once you read up and feel comfortable with customizing, rooting, ROM'ing.

You could also probably turn around and get $75-85 for the OV if it turns out people can upgrade to the Triumph and continue to keep the $25 dollar plan if it happens to become grandfathered. A $10 or $20 loss is nothing when looking at the overall big picture. It will also give you the benefit of waiting to see what happens with the first couple of batches of the Triumph.

Unless the phone your family member has qualifies for the Beyond Talk and not the Pay Lo service you won't be able to activate it with the $25 plan.
