Question about SetCPU and UnrEVOked^3-- Can we overclock?

I've searched but haven't been able to figure this out.

I rooted using unrEVOked^3, and downloaded SetCPU. However, the most it will let me overclock in the app is 998mhZ. Isn't that what the phone is already clocked to by default?

Is there any way to overclock using the unrEVOked stock-like ROM?

If unrEVOked lets you flash ROM's/kernels then it would depend on the kernel you have. The kernel is what determines if you can OC or not. The stock kernel will not allow you to OC.

did you go to "device selection" in the menu of setCPU and click autodetect speeds recommended?

That should allow you to advance the processor. As mentioned above, the kernel will determine the scaling of the OC/UC. It will also determine the OC/UC speed but they should all be at least 245/1228.

i just used unrevoked 3, downloaded ROM manager just to install Amon recovery since i prefer that, then flashed Fresh 3.4.0.1 and one of Kings kernels to OC. Havent heard of any issues yet, (i rooted mine the old fashioned way, these were coworker evos, so it wasnt that important to me)
