My only 'pure Android experience has been with the very first Nexus. At that time I wasn't comfortable with the pure Android experience. I don't remember it exactly, but I missed having an interface to just go to the widget or app that I want to use. It seemed, to me at least, that there was more navigation to get to the function I wanted to use. I'm not sure quite how to explain it.

Is this any different? I guess what I'm saying is that I want a conventional menu where I can just click on the app that I want to use, whether it be a calculator or Google Maps or TuneIn Radio

The Pixel Launcher allows you to swipe up from the bottom to access your apps. You can long press the screen to pull up your widget choices.

But I can still place widgets and apps icons on a home screen, right?

I installed it on my nexus, and it feel very easy to use. I'll keep it instead of Google Now Launcher

If you want to use a different launcher, then that would also be possible. Nova Launcher and Action Launcher are two popular ones that are available in Google Play Store.
