Question about touch problem

I have had my phone for a few months and when I got it it worked fine.
One day I noticed that the screen was unresponsive but only at the bottom (see red rectangle in image) - I rebooted and it was fine again.

last week I noticed it was unresponsive at the bottom of the screen again, as well as the back and menu buttons stopped responding.
A reboot got the back/menu buttons going again - but not the bottom of the screen.

Today I find the back/menu buttons not longer respond again and rebooting does not restore the functionality.

My question is - is this likely to be a screen problem or is it possibly a software issue?

Any comments would be appreciated.

If you haven't dropped it or damaged it anyway it's probably a software issue.
Have you tried factory resetting the phone?

Thanks UJ.

I have not dropped or damaged the phone, and have just done a factory reset which has rectified use of the back/menu buttons - but not the lack of response at the bottom of the screen :(

Sorry for the late reply. Just got back from a trip where I had no service :p
I don't know what else you can try. Sounds like you need to get the screen replaced :-\

Thanks again UJ.

I do not fully understand how the touch works on the screen and was not sure if it was possible for only a part of the screen to fail, and for such a uniform part at (ie a 5mm band across the full width so far from the bottom edge).

I can get a replacement from china, but its ?20 and I did not want to spend the money without being sure it would cure the problem :(

Sorry - I meant to ask - is it likely to be the LCD or the digitizer (I can't find an LCD for the phone anywhere).

If it only happens occasionally it's probably the digitizer. I still think it would be cheaper to get it repaired than doing it yourself, at least based on what those parts go for here in the U.S.
