so i got a call like 2 months ago saying im eligible for a free upgrade

i checked online today and it said
"AT&T Upgrade Status:

* Yes - You are eligible for an upgrade at a discounted price"

why did it say free if i have to pay a price still, did i miss my date or something? i am sure i had a free upgrade in oct so i waited for this phone

or am i reading this wrong and it means PHONE at discounted price, no upgrade fee? sorry for confusion

but i dont want to get swindled out of small time fees when i buy the phone tom, my sis said i shouldnt be paying ANYTHING extra cept for the phone itself >.>

Something to keep in mind with AT&T, they have 2 kinds of upgrades:
1. Regular upgrade - price of phone like a new account (for example $200) and an upgrade fee of $18. Your timer to end contract will be reset to 24 months.

2. Early upgrade - Price of phone like a new account + $250 + an upgrade fee of $18. Your timer to end the contact will be reset to 24 months :(

Are upgrade fees and activation fees different?

I believe so. Activation fees are for new account/new line. Upgrade fee is for people who wants to upgrade their phone on an existing line.

Phone cost ($200) + tax + $18 upgrade fee or $36 activation fee for new customer
