question about verizon wifi calling?

ok so I visting family and don't have the best service and some of my calls have ben made on wifi my question is when I talked to a rep they made it sound like it would work where u don't have service or when airplane mode was turned on but I would think it would be like tmobile where it makes most call when your near wifi so was the rep miss informed?

WiFi calling works the same on all carriers: Through WiFi. Yes, it will work where you don't have cell service or in airplane mode, but only if you have WiFi with a valid internet connection (and to a network that doesn't restrict the necessary ports for WiFi calling...some hotels are starting to do that as well as business networks).
