question about volume between apps

Ok so I've recently started using google music and Spotify to get me threw work and sometimes threw my commute. (Still rocking the iPod lol)

So when I pulled into my spot early like I do to take a gym and get some pokestops/Pokemon it bugged me I couldn't be playing my Jams while playing Pokemon go. Is there a way to separate there volume control? Or mute Pokemon

I haven't played Pokemon Go in a veeeery long while, so I can't remember the exact steps, but I do recall that there's a way to completely mute the game from its settings. But apparently that still does mute other apps.

I remember turning all sound off because it had a very persistent bug with notifications (if you had audible notifications, Pokemon go would go completely mute if one came through... as I understand it, however, that's a bug with the graphic engine used to develop the game).
