first. is the phone memory storage low message about ram? it's the only thing i could think of because no other phone storage is low. phone has 6gb left, 304mb app storage left so the only thing i could think of is that phone memory refers to ram.

this occured to me because out of the 512mb or ram the phone has, less than 100mb of data is being used by my phone when i go into manage apps and look at the data sizes and cache. however, i get the low phone storage message multiple times a day.

i had a 4.08 version update of the 2.3 that didn't properly install. it seemed like it was installing, but it got stuck saying "rebooting" for over an hour and i finally had to just pull the battery. haven't gotten the message to update since and i'm still on version 4.06. i was just wondering if that 4.08 update is what's taking up my phones memory because before the update, i never really got the memory low message and i have the exact same apps. i never cleared data before so i know that the data being used by my apps prior to update was way more than what i have now. right now, virtually none of my apps have data stored except for a few kb because i'm having to clear data/cache multiple times a day. only my mail app has about 23mb of data which i won't clear unless i have to do a factory reset. given that, i have less than 100mb of the phone memory tied up with apps. what's going on with the rest of the phone memory.

i also assume the low storage isn't referring to the the storage space as i've actually uninstalled apps and moved some to sd card with the message persisting. i have over 300mb left for app storage on the phone so that can't be it.

if it is the 4.08 update somehow tying up phone memory, how do i get it to release that so i don't get these messages anymore?

i know it's a long read. thanks for reading this far. >_<

No, the message does not refer to RAM, and neither is the update stored there - RAM is temporary memory that is continuously cleared - an update wouldnt fit in there anyways.

The space issue generally only pops up when space is actually low, but I have heard of a few people continuing to have issues after clearing space, moving to sd, etc. Not sure what to do about that specificially.

so this refers to actual storage of the phone? that's weird. for my apps it says 454 used and 294 free and i'm still getting the phone storage memory low...

does downloading an app and not installing it have something to do with it? i sometimes would get an app off the free amazon daily thing but not install it. it says it's "finished downloading" and ready to install but i just don't install it.

Yes, if you download something, the file is still there, just not installed.

You're one of the few who persistently get that error even though you clearly have plenty of space available. I guess you could always try going into Settings->Applications->Manage Applications->All->menu button->Sort by Size and "clear data" on the biggest 3 or 4 apps to see if it helps at all. Moving to sd is also an option

tried moving to sd, didn't help, tried uninstalling apps, didn't help. basically the only apps holding data on my phone now are: email (30mb) and the rest are the essentials like calendar, contacts, settings and such which are no more than 5mb each (more like 1 or 2mb each). still multiple times a day i get the memory full message and i won't get notifications until i somehow clear data. i'm having to constantly empty my email trash on a daily basis and squeezing out every possible kb i can from any apps that will allow me to clear data. i'm just wondering where all the memory storage has gone.

It hasn't GONE anywhere - it's a glitch in the software that won't go away until you hard reset

factory reset? won't that give me the same problem again because it'll install the software update again?

1. When you accept and install a software update, it is permanently stored in the ROM, in the /system folder. A factory reset doesn't touch that folder. It erases any user data (in the /data folder) that was added to the phone on top of the update, so when you do a wipe, it takes you back to a fresh, clean, blank copy of the most recent update that was installed.

2. It's not an inherent problem with the software problem itself right out of the box, or you would have seen the issue the very first day you got the phone. It's just a bug that happens over time with Sense phones. If you can do a good backup and don't have too much info stored that you don't wanna lose, a reset will definitely clear it up for you.

i can do a backup? how do i do this? >_< i admit i haven't explored all the things my phone can do. it would be nice if i didn't have to manually install/configure everything all over again. last time i did that it took a whole day to get it back kind of like before i rest it.

You can't do a full backup unless you're rooted. But look into My Backup Pro - usually the method that can back up the most data for you without being rooted. Also make sure you make a backup of your entire internal storage just in case

I'm having the same issue. I clear constantly. The largest thing is my contacts. If I clear data there, would I lose my contacts?

Yes. Obviously they can re-sync if you have them backed up to your Google account. Log into your Google account first to verify that they're there, and if they are, then first turn off Contact sync under Account settings, then clear data under Contact Storage, then verify all contacts have been deleted, then re-enable Contact Sync.
