Question: Is Microsoft OneDrive installed by default on S22U especially unlocked version?

My S22U is the unlocked version just acquired recently and I use Outlook and Teams and may have installed Excel and Word. I don't remember installing OneDrive but it's there.

Doing a little file cleaning and able to Uninstall Excel and Word. But find out I can't uninstall OneDrive. Only gives you an option to disable. Really?? Can't uninstall OneDrive?? And on an Unlocked model too??

So just wondering if OneDrive is installed by default from Google. Others have OneDrive installed by default? Give you option to uninstall or just disable like mine?

Thanks.

I'm not unlocked but onedrive was installed by default .

And when you hold down on the icon app (without actually uninstalling or disabling :p) does it show the option to uninstall it or disable?

Interesting it's preloaded. I wonder why. What it part of a Samsung backup to Cloud to OneDrive or something?

Thanks.

I have one drive loaded on my unlocked S22 ultra also. Also can only disable. But I use it and backup files. So I don't need to Uninstaller.

Ok, thanks for verifying that for me. Glad it's normal... I guess

I just thought with an unlocked from you got away from Bloat or being stuck with some 3rd party app you weren't allowed to uninstall.

I guess there's always something... even in an unlocked phone. :-!

Thanks.

Seeing the partnership that Samsung announced with Microsoft it isn't too surprising. Especially when you think about it being the only way to back up your photos through Samsung cloud now. I see them as doing a a dummy proof thing for people that just start deleting stuff they don't know and then complain that their phone isn't working lol. You know trying to make things easy for the average consumer.

Yeah on unlocked version they are all there and uninstalled all them lol

Ah, thanks. When you mentioned photos I finally found the relationship and reason OneDrive is installed, and can't be uninstalled, finding it in Gallery Settings.

I guess since the Note 8 and N20U I am still old school and preferred to save all my photos to the SD card. Do miss the SD Card slot a bit lol. :)

Looking around I see it's not the only built in cloud option. Seems I can use Google Backup to Google One? That part of Google Drive?

Or looks like I can use Samsung SmartSwitch plugging a USBC drive to make a backup of all my data including my photos??

I was looking for a backup/restore option like how Apple does full backup and restore. It's not cloud but if you can do a full restore in one go I may have to give that a try.

Why they don't offer SmartSwitch to cloud is a head scratcher to me though if it's a complete backup/restore option.

Thanks.

Sorry I didn't come back to answer, but I was only able to disable it ( I know you already got your answer. Lol).

What's Google one ?

I believe that OneDrive is installed because Samsung Cloud Backup of photos was discontinued. That's what used to be on unlocked Samsung devices. Samsung sent notifications saying that was going to be discontinued and to use OneDrive instead.

I already use OneDrive, since I have 1 TB storage included in my Microsoft 365 subscription, so its inclusion is good for me.

I believe it's part of Google Drive. Or from what I read, Google One is a subscription plan to give you more storage across all Google Products such as Drive, Gmail, Photos. I guess if you did store all your pics on Google Drive but need more than the 15GB of free space Drive gives you, then you have to pay up for more storage through One.

Because everyone that has an Android basically has to have a Google account to setup their phone I know that also includes getting all the Google products including Drive but I've never used it. So I was just checking it out today and as expected I have nothing there. But I did see that if you go to Storage you will see Backups and you will see where Google backs up your phones data on the drive. Forgot WhatsApp stores their backups on Goggle Drive too.

Yea may be over kill but I use both Samsung cloud with one drive and Google one since I have a lot of different devices and don't want to lose a thing.

As stated it's an inclusion of all Google based cloud products as well as a way to completely back up your phone regardless of manufacturer. It even backs up your texts and files the same way they are on your phone currently.
