The Xoom is a perfect solution IMO. I did not buy a data plan when I purchased, so no monthly costs for me. I did want the 3 & 4G capability so in the future I'm not kicking myself for not getting a tablet with 3 & 4G capability... didn't want to box myself out, if you will.

Well... technically, you could buy a XOOM right now and not pay monthly for it. Just use it as a WiFi only. But you'd be paying an extra $200 for the cell radio.

On March 28th... a mere two weeks from today... Motorola will release the WiFi only version of the XOOM. Same great tablet sans cellular radio. It will retail for $599.

If that's more than you planned on spending, I'd probably wait rather than buty one of the non-Honeycomb tablets available now. There will me several Honeycomb tablets released in the coming months that will offer WiFi only.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

You would be paying extra for the xooms 3g now even if you don't use it. Wait a few weeks and it looks like a wifi only is coming.

Extra cost for the device itself, yes. But no monthly cost unless you choose to. I have not activated any data plan on my Xoom nor paid any extra costs on top of the device's price.

Same here... no extra cost at all. No requirement for a data plan if you do not want one. I wanted the 3G/4G capability so I'm not boxed out in future if I ever needed a data plan.

Guess that didn't come out sounding right. Your paying more for the added 3g radio that the wifi only wont have making the wifi only cheaper. Your paying more for the 3g radio even if you don't use it as in wanting a data plan.
