ok so I still have yet to find the right ROM, but I am sick and tired of dealing with my radio problems.
I would like to keep my current settings and root, but I would like to flash the new radio so I dont deal with all the problems with my current radio problems.

How would I go about flashing just the new radio? Are there multiple radio files I should flash? Will I have to do a factory wipe?

If you guys could, I would REALLY appreciate a walk through on how to flash the radio (which ones).

Thanks guys! I really appreciate your guys help!

The 2.2 radio files are posted here:
[RADIO] The Obligatory Thunderbolt Radio Thread - xda-developers
Only use Froyo Radios for Froyo (2.2) ROMs. If you need a GB radio, you'll have to look for them...

Different folks get different results with the radios, so you may have to test each one out a bit.

BE SURE TO CHECK THE MD5 OF THE RADIO FILE BEFORE YOU FLASH! They are listed on the XDA page I linked to above. Flashing a bad file can BRICK your phone. A bad download will be the beginning of a really bad day!

To install, download file and rename to "PG05img.zip" and place on the root of the SD card. Reboot into HBOOT (hold power button and "volume -" when booting). Bootloader will be highlighed, press power button to execute. After a few seconds, it should automatically discover the radio file and begin the update process.

This process WILL NOT wipe your data...but you may want to do a nandroid backup before flashing new radios just in case.

After this has finished and your phone has rebooted, be sure to remove the PG05img.zip from the root of the SD card.

If your baseband version is currently 1.16.00.0420w_1 and your software version is 1.13.605.7, then you most likely have the first radio installed already (but there is actually no indication of what 4G LTE radio is installed on the software info screen). The other radio files listed on that page are versions which downgrade either the 3G or 4G radio, and the last one listed will downgrade both to the original stock versions.

Here is the post:
Alright. I did one of these for the Incredible, and now its time for one for the Thunderbolt.

I've noticed that there have been some spotaneous reboots since the leak surfaced. Well, I am of the opinion that this is due to a radio issue, and specifically, the LTE radio.

So, I am putting together some packages for folks to mix/match, or revert.

Standard disclaimer: If you break it, its your fault. QED.

First up, we have the 1.13.605.7 CDMA/LTE radio combo.

Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!

(Note, some ahve reported reboots with this combo)

Next up, we have the 1.13.605.7 CDMA and 1.12.605.6 LTE radio

Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!

Next up, the 1.12.605.6 CDMA and 1.13.605.7 LTE radio

Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!

Lastly (for now), we have the 1.12.605.6 CDMA/LTE radio combo.

@ paintdrinkingpete - you really need to start an official thread on Radio's... over the last few days ALOT of people have been asking about how they work and how to use them correctly... I hope your nope retyping all this radio info you keep giving out ;) id copy and paste it to wordpad or something, that way you don't have so much to type :) keep up the good work

Thanks paintddrinkingpete, you made perfect sense.

I'm a little confused which radio I should flash though.
Right now I have:
Baseband version: 1.16.00.0223r
Software number: 1.12.605.6

and as of now, my radio just sucks. Which radio should I use?

You most likely have the stock (original) radio. 1.16.00.0223r is the original CDMA 3G radio. Again, there is no way to determine what 4G LTE radio your device is using based on the software info screen (there should be).

I would try to the first radio listed (1.13.605.7 radio combo) first, and then work your way down the list. Some radios play better with different ROMs than others, and some devices seem to have differences as well.

The big thing to look for is random reboots -- if you're getting them frequently, you'll probably want to try a different radio. If you're not, then the next thing I judge each radio on is 4G battery life. For me, my device running DasBAMF 1.6.3 seems to work best using the new CDMA radio with the older 4G radio (2nd one listed on that page).

Haha...you're right. What's funny is that a few weeks ago I was just as lost. I spent some time trying to figure everything and got some help from some of the good folks here and over at XDA. Just trying to pay it forward by helping those still learning the process.

I would upgrade the software version as well. Most fixes for the new radio are reliant on the 1.13.605.7 base. You can do that by flashing any updated Froyo ROM. If you want to keep the stock look and feel of sense, then I would recommend das BAMF. If you're worried about losing data and settings by flashing a ROM read this guide by Pete: http://forum.androidcentral.com/thu...store-apps-data-when-installing-new-roms.html

Then follow Cyber Warriors guide on the proper way to flash/backup ROMS

Once you get through doing that a couple times then you'll be ready for Gingerbread :)

That would be awesome!! Just starting to get into why and how come I would flash the radio or Kernel. Im sort of a if it isnt broke dont fix it, but if it makes it better run with it!

Lots of new android users with the bolt - i think it would be a good idea to have a thread with very straight forward and thorough step by step instructions for how to do things. Esp when radios are involved, bc they are probably the most dangerous thing to flash if it goes wrong.

One of the reasons I'm hesitant about putting a general guide out there about radios, especially now that there are Gingerbread ROMs popping up which require a complete different set.

It's a bit easier to answer questions when you already know what someone is trying to accomplish.

Maybe I'll do it anyway...

I'm pretty new to Android (this is my first Android device as well), but I got into all this stuff on the BlackBerry platform (plus I'm a windows/linux/cisco admin), so I'm a pretty quick study.

I'm not saying ya have to do it haha. And by no means do i consider myself an expert on this stuff, i had a droid incredible for about 4 or 5 months and now a tbolt for 2 or whatever it is since it came out.

I would be hesitant to make one myself so i am definitely not trying to push you to make one, I just think it would be a good idea to have some additional guides for new users.

No, everyone should learn the old-fashioned way. By bricking their phone and reading through 200 page threads on xda. :p

Now, get off my lawn!

Oh, I know -- Frankly, I'm probably not the right person to do it anyway! :)

When I first started installing ROMs, I was lost on how to backup and restore data. Sure, I knew what apps to download and use, but what was I supposed to backup? It's easy once you've done it a few times, but can be pretty daunting and tedious the first few times. That's the main reason I put together the guide I did for backing up and restoring data...just because I hadn't found one out there and figured it could help noobs (like myself) that weren't sure about what to do and didn't feel like searching through several threads and attempting trial and error to get it right.

haha.

@pete - yeah i gotcha. i remember before i got an android i read about rooting, and obviously when you don't know what terms mean and have never gone thru the steps of rooting or flashing, it's very difficult to make up or down of it.

And i think we're all just trying to pay it forward for the next class of ac users to get a handle on things basically. At least i am, bc i got such great help and learned so much from the peeps over here.

No matter what, you're going to have to read alot, and experience some stuff, to get comfortable with this stuff.

Anyway just thought i'd chime in my agreement that there could/should be some new threads, perhaps a radio thread, or an all inclusive thread akin to what pvillecomp has put together in the incredible forums http://forum.androidcentral.com/incredible-rooting-roms-hacks/66276-roms-mods-hq2.html (which is btw one of the very best threads on AC). obviously this would take a whole lot of work, and in no way would I volunteer anybody for this job.

also I'd just like to thank you guys in the tbolt forums for being so helpful (you help save phones everyday) - paint pete, nate, forgetful, notjustaphone, ssethv, dajogejr, mclarryjr, and the guys who made our stickies: cory s, cyber warrior, and droidxcon especially THANKS

(if i left anyone out it wasnt on purpose!)

One good point made by PvilleComp in that thread (which is awesome), that is VERY relevant to this thread and important to anyone about to flash a radio:

NOTE: Please be very careful when doing anything involving the Radio. It is one of the few areas where you can seriously brick your phone beyond recovery. Always check the MD5 of your radio download before flashing. A bad download will be the begining of a really bad day!

It's become second nature for me to check the MD5 before I install, but that's something that should not be overlooked! This is also why I usually link to the XDA thread on radios, as the MD5s are published there for each radio file.

For anyone not sure how to check an MD5 hash, one very easy way to view the file details using "ASTRO File Manager", but there are many other ways as well..

I always check md5 on my computer if i'm doing a radio (it's one of the handful of things i know the commands for in terminal haha). Don't always check it for other stuff bc it won't destroy your phone (roms or whatever).

Absolutely worth the extra time to check the md5 checksum before flashing a radio. I even check it on my phone after I copy it over in case the transfer messed up. (Hate to have to go back to my BB Storm 2.)

The ThunderBolt is my first Android device and I would not be enjoying it as much without the efforts of those here on the forums. I've learned a lot in two months and just doing what I can to help.

What is md5? why change my radio?? Isnt that how it communicates with the carrier? What will changing my radio do? Guess i need a better definition of a radio than what I found.
