OK, at work I sometimes have to work in the Toyota factory I am associated with. I am never more than about 50 yards from 2 big overhead doors that are opening and closing all the time. I am noticing that my Dinc is getting terrible 3G signal. Outside those doors I get 4 bars. I would figure it is just being in the factory and leave it at that, except there is a guy with a VZW iphone 4 setting right next to me and he does not seem to have any problems. My Dinc will burn thru a fully charged 3000 mAh battery in under 4 hours and the battery heats up to 117 or so degrees.

Most of the time I am doing nothing more than playing Words With Friends and an occasional text message and a wee bit of web surfing or YouTube viewing.

Several of us "smartphone" owners have a good-natured rival going....lots of ribbing and I seem to be catching the brunt because my Dinc gets such crappy signal. The group is one ATT iphone 3Gs, my VZW Dinc, a VZW iphone 4 and a Sprint Evo.

Has an anyone else noticed worse signal reception when compared to another VZW phone, expecially iphone 4? I am not concerned with the ATT and Sprint phones since they obviously have better tower coverage in my area.

Also, I have notice lately that I no longer get good 3G in my home...

Have you tried yo update your PRL? Also bars are really not the true indication of signal strength, the dB rating is. The closer to 0 the better the reception so a signal of -50db is better than -90db.

I've made calls just fine with one bar and no problems but I've had crummy connections showing full bars.

Yes, the signal is usually around 98 db or higher. Most times I get error message stating no network connection...

The lower the number the better your signal. I usually pull -68 to -72 db in my area and I'm in an extended network area. have you tried different radios? Are you rooted? You said Sprint has good service, try the leaked EVO radio. If you do try changing your radio try it for 4 hours before you try the next one. I am running the new Gingerbread radio and my tweeked version of the leaked 2.3.3.
Good Luck!!!

**** Also be warned, flashing your radio can brick your phone*****

That is a legitimately low signal.

For giggles, you may want to have your VZW iPhone friend put his iPhone in "Debug" mode, or whatever apple calls it, and check his signal strength in DB. I'll bet he's showing more bars but has the same bad signal. This was one of Apple's "fixes," over reporting the bars ;)

The only problem with that is that he was surfing the net and all while mine said no network connection...

Does anyone know how to put the VZW iphone 4 into debug mode? I cannot figure it out... i have searched and cannot find any info.

It has got to get better than this.... any ideas on different radio or Rom for better signal?

Well, I am at a loss as to what to do with this phone. It is pretty much unusable aside from texting and phone calls. Internet is really not possible, maybe I will just get an iphone. At least they work where my DInc will not...

From the screen shots you show with signal strength, Your signal looks good at -85 and -96. What's interesting is that the Gage shows better at -96 then on the -85 even though -85 is a better signal. It does look like you are switching between 1x and 3g. Not sure why.

Those are misleading. When I hit the button for the screenshot of the -96, it was showing zero bars, but spiked for a second.... the -85 while on 1x will not allow me network access. I burned thru a 3000 battery in under 4 hours last night and my battery wax over 115* al night. Every time I try to access 3g the phone just sets there. Two friends with iPhone sat there al night and battery hardly drained and never had network connection problems.

My DInc just gets horrible reception. It gets old when I spend 10 hours unable to use my "smartphone" every day.

This is my signal at home. Note the bars. LOL

I have been having signal problems for a week, so I think it's a verizon thing.
My wife's iphone has stayed at 3g, but it has been slow at times.....

Wasn't there some type of hybrid prl that could be used to pick up a better signal by putting it on the SD card directly and going into the prl settings to update the prl manually??

The hybrid PRL only works if you're in an Alltel/VZW area otherwisw it might actually make your signal worse. If it's worse just dial *228 option 2 and it will reset the PRL back to normal.

It will probably work on my phone because I used to be with Alltel and in spots since I got my Verizon phone my service was worse that when I had Alltel. I was looking for this and I am hoping it works for me again...

Sadly it does not work. Dialing ##778 does nothing on my rooted phone.

Which ROM are you running? It won't work on AOSP ROMS like CM7. They don't have the Sense elements for the dialer. Make a nandroid of your current ROM, load up Virtuious, or another close to stock sense ROM and try again. Then restore back to CM7 or whatever. You won't lose the PRL in the restore. Just don't do a *228 or it will revert back.

Ok, I have been running Skyraider 4.0 since it came out but just flashed CM7 107 last night when I tried that. Went back to SR 4.0 last night. So I just tried the prl thing and it went thru, but I don't see any difference. The real test will be tonight at work, but I am not holding my breath....
