Hey ya'll:
I have a friend that is considering a tablet for the first time, but he really wants to be able to have the ability to "write" notes on his tablet and be able to save them, or...whatever, not type. I see the new Pen Memo app that came with the TouchWiz update, but I'm confused (yeah, it doesnt' take much). Is that intended to be with a stylus, I assume, or...what? Just wondering if this would be a good alternative for him.

Thanks!
Bruc

I thought the new memo app that came with TouchWiz was typing only and not stylus/finger friendly, but I could be wrong. I didn't see a setting to enable a stylus approach to writing in the app. Anyone else know?

It has the option for typing and shows a picture of a pencil writing. I tried the pencil thing last night but used my finger. When I did, it recognizes it, but writing with your finger is terribly unnatural and I couldn't write anything legible. I KNOW it can't mean literally writing with a pencil, so logic would seem to dictate that it means to use a stylus, but...I'd like to see if someone knows for sure. I even noticed a blog on the samsung site of someone using one of their stylus for a grafitti app, but didn't mention the "pen memo" app.

Now, mind you, I'm talking about the app/widget thing that pops up when you swipe up or press the lower bar on the home screen and those apps come up. It's called "Pen Memo". Not sure if there isd another memo app.

Thanks!

The HTC flyer might be a better choice for him as it comes with a dedicated stylus. Plus, it has HTC scribe which is really good for writing notes. Take a look at the flyer forums or watch a review on it.

LOL, sorry 'bout that! ;-) Thinking of something completely different. You're right though, the writing with your finger tip option is not ideal. I know my hand-writing is not great, but it's not that bad. ;-)

Thanks! Good idea. I'll check it out.

Pen Memo sucks using your finger or a stylus.

I have been looking for an app to do this two and I came across two that I'm currently checking out. The first is called Handrite. The second is called Anti-Paper. Handrite has a free and paid version; the Anti-Paper is only beta and free for right now. It is still being developed for a paid version. I won't give my opinions on either, as I'm still looking at all the features (and future features in the case of Anti-Paper).

I just got my stylus yesterday from Amazon and haven't tried it out, but I'm pretty sure it will work fine as it works with my finger.

The thing I would like to see is to have notes either searchable by a user designated tag or be searchable by word using handwriting recognition. Also to have the ability to enter text by either keyboard or stylus methods or a combination of both. Sometimes I want to type notes and draw a diagram all in one note. I haven't seen anything that allows me to do all of this.

Anyway - any other suggestions as to apps to look at?

Thanks! Let me know what you find. I'm not really looking for myself, but as I said in the first post, it's for a friend of mine. If he decides to shell out for a tablet, I'll let him know about these.

You may want to check out an app in the market called Writpad. Can also print to a PDF.
