Hello all! I am looking to root my rezound...noob here, never rooted a phone..looked into it a few times and boy, it looks confusing!

Today I came across the site where you can unlock your phone through HTC (htvdev.com, already registered). I am unsure of which process to do first..there's three options.

I mainly want to root this baby in order to delete all the bloatware that came with the phone...also being able to save battery and tethering would be nice. But when I was about to start the process(not really sure what to expect), it warned of all the possibilities of something going wrong...like losing a feature and never getting it back?

So anyone can let me know how grueling the process goes, along with pros and cons? Thanks:-$

Here is a link that will help you get going. Its broken down so it will be easier to understand.
Just follow all the directions and you will be root. I just got my first custom ROM installer today real sweet.
You can skip e part about flashing ziggy's kernel. After you get unlocked boot loader and then get the root step done
Then you need to flash the recovery I used the Amon Ra version and then you can use the bottom link to install this ROM its a cleaned up stock ROM.
It is very stable I haven't had one issue so far.

rooted for the first time. just go slow and follow directions. and then don't go start renaming all your OS files and moving them about and stuff :)

i did not install a recovery. just unlocked and then perm rooted. used titanium backup to freeze all the bloat. installed SetCPU & AdFree.

used this guide to unlock http://www.droidforums.net/forum/ht...ow-unlock-rezounds-bootloader-htcdev-com.html as well as carefully read the HTC steps step by step.

then perm rooted with this one click root: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/ht...t-rezound-post-bootloader-unlock-windows.html

personally I would not start installing ROMS as we are in the early stages yet. everytime you install a ROM you are going to have to reinstall most of everything else as it is like a factory reset AFAIK. I am waiting until some more robust ROMS come out, maybe even the ICS roms that should be out. right now freezing bloat and tethering is all i need to use while that happens.

I used HTCdev to unlock my bootloader, used the Zergrush Rush method on XDA to root, the Titanium Backup Pro to backup all user apps and data. Then I used Titanium pro backup to remove bloatware.

This was my first time doing this stuff and I was nervous too, but it worked great. Just be careful and take things slow.

My suggestion is if you're starting off, try tackling temporary root before jumping into potentially damaging your phone.. Temp root gives you most of the same advantages, plus nothing you do is permanent. If you're feeling froggy and want to jump onto permanent, it's a good starting point. Plus teaches you how to use the tools at hand in a safer learning environment.

Can you perm. Root w/o unlocking the bootloader? Or I misunderstanding your suggestion?? :)

My understanding is that to get permanent root you have to first unlock the bootloader. When I did it and I just did it yesterday, it seemed intimidating but now that I look back on it, it really is pretty easy. I started a thread called Quick Links to Unlock Bootloader and Root which has links to the step by step instructions I used to successfully Unlock and root my Rezound.

That is what I thought also, that is why the previous post confused me. Maybe it was just the wording lol

I think he was saying that you can play with a temporary root just so you can become more familiar with all the terms and the process and still have the option to return to stock.
