I am a new owner of an EVO 3D and just have questions about rooting.
1. My questions I guess would be, what are the benefits of rooting? What will I be able to do and not do with it being rooted?
2. Will it hurt my Sprint contract at all?
3. Will I still be able to make calls?
4. Can I delete the apps that were put on my phone from the factory?
5. How exactly do I go about rooting my phone.
6. Can i get ICS for it?

1. There are many benefits to rooting. Each person finds different things more important than others.
Free Wifi tethering!
Removal of bloatware!
Custom ROMs/Themes. You can change everything about the look of your phone. Want everything to be red? Flash a custom theme!
Custom ROMs come in many different flavors. Want a close to stock experience with minor tweaks? There's a ROM for that. Want to overclock the processor to make your phone silly fast? There's a ROM for that. I could go on and on, but simply put, the options are endless.
2. You are technically voiding your warranty. I have never seen anyone have their contract terminated for rooting. Assuming you are on HBOOT 1.5 you will have to use the HTC unlock tool. HTC will know you have unlocked your bootloader. Opinions vary on how difficult HTC is to work with on warranty issues after using the unlock tool.
3. Yes you can still make calls! It would be silly of all of ust to do these things to our phones if it meant you no longer had a phone.
4. Yes you can delete the bloatware from your phone. There are several ways to do it.
5. READ READ READ and READ again! There are several guides available. Here is one of many

Read the entire thread, if you run into any issues chances are someone else has already had the same issues. It most likely has been resolved later in the thread.
Use the forum search tool. If you can't find an answer, ask. Most of us are pretty nice.
6. There are several alpha builds of ICS. I would start small, work your way up to the Alpha ROMs. They are really meant for people who are a little more knowledgeable about these things. They can have more issues that make it a little bit of an adventure for even the most seasoned Android veteran.
None of this is difficult if you are willing to read directions.
There are several 100% stable ROMs available. Most devs are very good about providing support for their ROMs.
Hope this helps.
