I frequently get warnings that I am running out of space.

I have several questions regarding this problem.

1. The default apps on my phone literally take up more than half the space on my phone. Most of them I don't use. I also noticed that new phones are coming out where you CAN NOT install additional memory. Is this intentional on part of mobile phone companies to force people to buy new phones with more memory?

2. Can my phone have additional memory installed?

When I navigate in the HikiPlayer app I see a directory

/storage/external_SD

However, that directory doesn't show up anywhere in the file manager application.

In my settings there is a menu option to "Mount SD card". When I press it nothing happens.

Also the FAQ page on Virgin Mobile for my phone states the total storage is 8G, yet the storage meter in system settings says my total storage is only 4G. Why would that be?

Hi,

1. Unfortunately you cannot delete those pre-installed apps unless it is a rooted device.
I also think they do it for more than just commercial purposes or to force people to buy new phones e.g. Samsung did not opt for a SD card slot is because these cards are more likely prone to failure or corruption in comparison to the device's ROM.

2. There are ways to save space by moving your content to a cloud storage e.g. google photos, google drive, one drive, dropbox. Also, If anything happens to the device, it will be easily recoverable.

Hope this helps :)

I believe in complaining, though it isn't a short term solution. :)

Who is responsible for the number of default apps installed? The carrier ( Virgin Mobile ) or Google ?

Hello. I see you have posted a different query about storage in the past and it possibly wasn't answered in a way that would help your current query.

You will know you can add an sd card to your device (external storage).

How do I select an external SD card? Are they standard? Should I search for an external SD Card for my particular device?

If I install such a card, will I be able to install apps directly on it ?

Hi,

I believe the manufacturer e.g. LG, Samsung etc is responsible for this. Nexus and OnePlus are the only android devices that have no pre-installed/default apps from the manufacturer.

Hope this helps :)
