Questions about the screen

So, I'm more than likely getting this phone in 2 weeks, and I had a question about the screen. I hear the color reproduction isn't the best and I'm wondering if that's noticeable? I'm not really a color gamut snob, but I do watch a lot of video content so I want the screen to be good. Anyone have thoughts on this?

I am not a color snob either. I have a note 4 and nexus 6 and both screens look good to me.

I don't have a Nexus 6 but I've heard it's only noticeable when you put it side-by-side with something like the Note 4. Otherwise, on its own it looks great.

Since the previous two posters mentioned the Note 4, here's a link to a very good (I'd say very accurate, too) comparison of the displays of the Nexus 6 and the Note 4:

Google Nexus 6 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Display Comparison

I think the Nexus 6 display is fantastic, but I'm a fan of inky blacks, warm colors and noir-y kinds of movies. Something like Blade Runner [1982] would look incredible on the Nexus 6. Regular YouTube videos like the one above look (and sound) great, too, but obviously displays like those on the Note 4 (or even more impressive, the Galaxy S6) can amp up the brightness on images in ways the N6 just can't.

If you're looking for all the candle power you can get in a handheld device, those phones (or maybe the LG G4) may be what you want. If not, the N6 will more than satisfy, and not only because of its size.

Nexus 6 screen is great but not the best on the market. That goes to Note 4 and S6. I had Note 4 before N6. Happy with the switch.

I am a color snob (I calibrate my computer monitor once every 3-5 months, all of my TVs once a year, get paid for print-related color management, etc.), and while the extra color saturation and somewhat inaccurate colors are noticeable, they don't bother me in day to day use. If you aren't a picture quality snob I can't see how this screen would bother you, as the resolution and black-levels are fantastic.

The only input I can add is there seems to be one or two manufacturing processes for this screen. Meaning, you may get a model that has some "banding" or "burn in" on white screens. Trading this in for another may get you one of the better screens.

But DON'T make any judgments until turning OFF Adaptive brightness. This can make the screen pink in low light and grey in bright light.

I've had a few AMOLEDS and IPS screens and the screen on MY Nexus 6 is stellar. I did want to see what a custom kernel could bring with some color control and am very happy with the results. Using obsanity_ips Color profile with Franko Kernel I couldn't be happier.

Just to toss in my two cents...

I just got my new Nexus 6. My previous device was an HTC M8.

Supposedly the M8 has greater pixel density and higher resolution. Personally, however, so far, to my eyes, the screen on my new Nexus 6 is just as good as the HTC M8. And with the larger screen, in some ways, it is even better.

I've used most phones I think the nexus 6 has the second best screen I have used behind the note 4. Just turn adaptive brightness off is does screw with the colors.

Problem with N6 is QA. I had 3 different ones and all had different display, the previous 2 were pretty bad

Is it true that the screen burns in easily? I'm hearing a lot of reports about that and it's putting me off of the phone.

I have a used one and used a burn in app to see if I could find any and couldn't. I've never had burn in on an AMOLED screen though.

What app are you using?
.
I did notice there are supposed screen burn fix apps.

I'm just sort of nervous buying this phone and a week later having burn in.
I had burn in after a week but it was very hard to see. The apps that fix burn in really do work though. I use the app occasionally and it keeps the burn in to a minimum.

7 months in, no burn.

Does the Nexus 6 have the best screen on the market? No. The stock calibration is not the most accurate, and they could have turned the max brightness up higher.

But I don't really care. The screen is awesome to watch videos and movies on. And if the color temp really bothers you, run a custom kernel and tweak it... It's a Nexus... There's a reason why near every custom ROM developer uses a Nexus as their reference device. It's, by a wide margin, the easiest phone to fuss with.

But... Screen's great.
