OK followed DroidXcon's post and applied EB16SC26_DXC.tar. Phone currently shows:

Firmware version: 2.2.1

Baseband version: S:i500.04 V.EB01

Kernel version: 2.6.32.9

Build number: SCH-I500.EB01

I then went into Clockwork and backed it up.

Questions before I go further:

1. If I use a ROM Theme can ADW Launcher EX still be installed / used?

2. Once you go this far do you rely on Verizon for updates at all or care about them?

3. Can I go to Voodoo from where I am at or would I need to start all over?

Thanks in advance for information past, present, and future! ;)

1. Yes - theme is just applied over top of everything - you can use whatever launcher you want -but some themes will even be designed for particular launchers

2. I was in the same boat - once you play with this stuff, you'll never care about OTA updates

3. You'd need to download a voodoo ROM/kernel, and use red clockwork to flash it and then prior to restarting, advanced>enable lagfix.

If that didn't make sense, then you need to read a little more about voodoo. There's a thread about it. Hope it helped.

3. Stay away from voodoo for now. It is best to get some experience under your belt flashing things in non voodoo and just using your phone in general before attempting voodoo. It is just too easy to goof up and end up in a bricked situation on voodoo.

OK thanks so from what I gather....

If I use a ROM in these forums I can still install ADW Launcher EX and apply those themes over whatever ROM I have applied with Clockwork.

I figured as much about Verizon updates. I like the phone much better without all the Verizon crap on it.

OK sounds good about Voodoo. I'll get more practice / understanding. I am happy with what I have now and as I read if you are happy with it don't bother with Voodoo for now.

One other note about flashing themes and ROMs. Quite a few of us have been running into some force close issues when flashing (installing) themes. What we have found worked best was flashing the ROM by itself, rebooting the phone to let the ROM completely install, then booting back into recovery to flash everything else we want to load. Of course that doesn't apply to ADW because it is an app you download from the market. Just be aware of a well known bug with ADW. If you use the long press of the search soft key (the magnifying glass) to use google voice search, ADW breaks that function in EB01 (Froyo)
