I have a LG OPTIMUS S phone from sprint....what benefits would i have if i were to hack into my phone?

I have no clue what to do or how to go about it. what do you need to know to perform this?

Thanks,

Paul

There are alot of benefits to hacking your phone. You can get rid of all the Sprint bloatware, have total control of your apps, enable yourself to have free mobile hot spot, the list goes on. I personally will never own another phone that cannot be hacked due to just these few things mentioned.

First thing, is to READ, there are a lot of helpful threads here and all over. Before you attempt to flash anything reread to ensure you know what needs to be done. If anything does go wrong there is plenty of support from the community and devs to help fix many of the problems you may run into. Have fun and welcome to the boards

The only big warning is do not use Rom Manager from the market.

Head over to the rooting rom thread and under the stickies at the top is the zvh rooting thread.

My phone runs so much better rooted with a custom ROM than it did before. My phone crashes less, has much better battery life, and has a lot more room for apps. These are the advantages that I've found. Since you're already on Gingerbread, I'd recommend Your Mom ROM. That seems to be the successor to Reborn ROM, which is what I'm using.

Read everything before attempting anything.

Lots of benefits to be had: .
  • Removing Carrier IQ Agent is reason enough to root it today.
  • Ability to create backup images of your entire system that you can store on a computer or burn to CD.
  • Stop processes that tend to run automatically when not always convenient.
  • Remove software that you don't use or want (Sprint ID, anyone?) and install more of what you do.
  • Install custom ROMs that have been tailored to improve your device.
  • Longer battery life.
  • Faster response.
  • Ability to turn down over the air updates that are not fully tested (ZVH).
  • Install more custom themes and mods.
  • Ability to remap a button if you want or when one inevitably breaks. (Good luck with that, iPhoners! :) )

And the list goes on..,

give this post a read

http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg...ome-basic-optimus-s-guide-newcomers-info.html

will tell you about rooting, installing custom recoveries and ROM's

when you decide to root and install roms. read everything for it at least twice. And if you need help or questions, post it here http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg-optimus-s-rooting-roms-hacks/

Basically, just read.

You don't have to have mad computer skills to do most of this stuff, but if you'll take the time to read, learn, and try to understand, then you'll find it immensely easier to deal with an issue should one arise.

When I started with my first Android phone I read until my eyes hurt and still soft bricked my phone because I tried to get ahead of myself. Luckily enough I wasn't treated like an idiot and someone helped me restore it.

Don't do anything but read until you feel confident enough to give it a go. Once you get passed all the Android jargon you'll see that most modifications are aimed at newcomers in a way. The devs do all the hard work and all we have to do is download a zip file and follow instructions. You'll learn that these things are actually less complicated than they might seem at first glance.

Watch out, if you google generic android ROMing webpages (lifehacker, androidauthority, etc), they will probably tell you to use ROM manager to flash a ROM. Unless you like using your phone in "Paperweight mode" for all eternity, don't use (as Epidenimus calls it) "The Rom Mangler"
