Questions b4 Purchase :)

Am pretty set on purchasing the wifi only Xoom on release. Don't really need the mobile connectivity. My Atrix can handle that for me and I am ALWAYS around a wifi spot.

I just had a couple questions that I have either not seen addressed or I was a little confused about.

1. Is there any way you can use the Micro USB port to plug in an external drive of some sort? This would be awesome if possible. If not, I suppose just plugging in directly to computer would work, but being able to do it with an external drive would really be nice when you are on the road.

2. I heard somewhere that .avi files are not supported but could not find a solid source. Is this true? If so, would doing a simple convert to mp4 be suitable?

3. I am not at all Flash savy so this is where I am a little confused. What kind of stuff does it's version of flash support? Equivalent to my Atrix? I know we can't get Hulu and Netflix (yet *prays*). Anyone know about Megavideo?

I appreciate it guys.

The usb can work hooked up to a external drive but its a hack right now not official. Flash will work like your phone. You can now play flash games and videos from websites. As for the avi thing I have not put any videos on my xoom yet.

Is the hack for the external drive something I need to go and search for or is it something I can ask about here?

1.) Here is the AC link for the USB Host feature. It requires root. I want this feature bad too, but I won't root yet until 4G hardware update is finished.

2.) Actually the .avi DIVX files are yielding smoothest playback on my Xoom running Rockplayer. My mp4 files don't run as smooth. There are plenty of threads on this topic.

3.) Here's a thread listing what Flash 10.2 can do for Honeycomb. Outside of the normal web page and video flash.

Cool. Will look into it. Im getting the wifi only xoom so rooting should not be a big issue. I know very little about it so I need to start searching I guess.

Well I rooted for overclock but using an external drive would be nice. To bad I don't have the cable, but for a couple bucks its worth it.

Once everything's set up for root, pushing something like this takes seconds, and it shouldn't erase anything.

I had some difficulties rooting. Unlocking was easy, I made rooting harder than it needed to be.

That is apparently only for the Verizon ones. Ill be rooting the wifi only when it releases. Ill look around.

Dont think there is a walk-through yet for the wifi version since it hasn't been released. It usually takes about an hour for a device to be released before root can be verified. If the OS is identical then what works for one may work for all.

Its getting very close though so just a little patience and check the droid blog front pages on release day. There are usually some nice goodies from the dev community, including a root guide, unlock guide and overclock.
