When plugging in an ethernet adapter nothing happens, there are no additional settings appearing in the systems settings. For context: I would like to use it to develop software to interface with external hardware but the hardware requires a static ip to be set on the receiving device(Xiaomi 13). Is there really no setting like this or does anyone know of a way to do this? Thank you [please I am not talking about setting static IP on WiFi, which works no problem]

Welcome to Android Central forums.

A quick search found these instructions and this video. Are these the steps you've taken?

To connect an Android phone to an ethernet network, you can use an ethernet cable and an adapter. [1, 2, 3]
Steps [1, 2, 3, 4]

  1. Plug one end of an ethernet cable into a router or switch
  2. Plug the other end of the ethernet cable into an adapter
  3. Plug the adapter into the phone's USB-C or Lightning port
  4. Turn off the phone's Wi-Fi and mobile data
  5. Check for a notification on the phone that says "Ethernet cable connected"
  6. If needed, configure the ethernet device
  7. Enable ethernet
Troubleshooting [4]
  • If the adapter has lights, they should flash to indicate a connection [4]
  • If the phone doesn't receive an "Ethernet cable connected" notification, check the device's settings [3]
  • Using an RJ45 cable on a telephone line can damage the phone system [5]
