Hey guys,
I'm going to be buying a new phone within the next month so I can finally throw my note 5 in the trash. Anyways, I'm wanting to stay under that $350 window and the honor 8 has been interesting to be since release. I have a couple questions though.

How is the camera, would you say it's on the same level as the Note 5?

Is emui really as annoying as all the reviews on AC make it out to be?

And finally is it even worth buying right now, or should I continue to look around?

Probably not far from the note 5 for the camera.

Most complaints on emui are on the 4 version. There is an update to emui 5 which is closer to other android devices.

For $260-280 based on recen sales, its a pretty good phone.

Camera is one of it's strongest features. You will absolutely love it. I don't think the Honor 8 is anywhere near dated. It'll be a while before the honor 9 is released here so it's still a very good buy. The only real difference you'll see is the screen size compared to the note 5. The honor 8 is 5.2 inches. Like I said the camera is one of the best features on the phone so you will be happy. If you get one let us know how you like it. Oh as for EMUI, it's fantastic!!!!! Best software interface on the market to me. I love it. It's nothing like Android and is a hybrid type mix between IOS and Android. Very easy to navigate and very smooth and fluid. You'll enjoy it.

What is your screen on time on average?

I'd agree with most of this. I've just switched from the Galaxy s8 to the Huawei P10 and its my first experience with EMUI. I was a little worried after reading a lot of complaints in here especially to do with notifications but it's been awesome and notifications are all spot on once you set them all up properly. The P10 is also 5.2" and considering I usually go for bigger phones I've found it to be the perfect size. The camera's and camera so are fantastic and have so many features that you'll never get bored with it. I'm definitely going to be sticking with Huawei for a while and I'll be trying a few more of their phones too

Are you referring to emui 4 which the honor 8 was launched with it emui 5, which came with the nougat update?

To answer your questions, as someone who has used the phone for almost ten months:

The camera is great. I've never used the Note devices, but the dual cameras on the Honor 8 make for excellent shots. I'm usually very happy with my photos. There's a pretty cool editing feature for photos as well.

I actually really loved EMUI 4.0 and then 5.0. While it's true that some users found EMUI annoying, I personally loved the different experience and how an EMUI Theme Editor app can change my phone to meet my exact needs. It's super fun to tweak your theme to your own liking. It's definitely a feature I use frequently.

Lastly, I absolutely think the Honor 8 is worth it for purchase now. I am wondering about my next upgrade (which always happens when it's been around one year since I purchased the phone in question); but I honestly can't give up my Honor 8 yet. With the release of the 8 Pro, you'll be able to find good deals (check out Newegg). It's a very reliable phone, and I've had minimal glitches in almost ten months.

Let us know what you decide!

The camera beats the Note 5 one. No doubt about it. The EMUI really isn't bad. I like it but its different for other people. You can always use a different launcher. I did put Nova in there. The phone got updated to Nougat. Not sure about Oreo though. Honor 8 is a great phone and you won't be disappointed.

True - different launchers will take care of the EMUI situation. These forums have been a bit of a mixed bag with regards to who likes EMUI and who doesn't.

Compared to when I used a Note 5 (briefly), I'd say the camera on the Honor 8 is actually quite a lot better, with more features too. EMUI isn't all that annoying - especially after the Nougat update, I've grown to enjoy a lot of the proprietary feature that come with it. And, it's worth it if you can get that $290 or $260 deal on Amazon. Otherwise, I'd recommend waiting for the next Honor phone to come to the US (if that ends up happening).

The Samsung cameras are pretty limited in function compared to Honor. The note 5 is also two years old which is near eol.

What's wrong with the note 5 you have? I love mine and have no issue at all.

Other then the fact I've had to turn just about all features that aren't absoutly necessary to just get more then 3.5 sot and the random force reboots it's a fine phone. It was nice when new but mines just worn out. The force reboots are due to some kind of internal hardware issue that is out of warranty.

3.5 hr SOT isn't normal for a new note 5, but it could be a degraded battery or a hardware problem.

I'm sure it Iis a degraded battery, it was better new. But now I'm just getting tired of it and wanting something new. I'm also not wanting to go back on a lease plan from the carrier. And with the good options in unlocked now.i wanted to go that route.

You can finance unlocked phones too... Samsung will finance phones for 24 months. Best buy will do 18 months on the mate 9, but only 6 months on the honor 8.

That's odd. Did you drop it a bunch or something? I love this phone.

Nope, dropped maybe a handful of times over the course of 2 yrs. Always been in a case. IDK I think maybe I just got the dud of the batch.
