Questions Regarding 4.0.4 OTA Update

Um, no dear, it doesn't warn you that it will wipe your device.
I just flashed back to 4.0.2 to make sure I was correct that no warning was given. I was correct. NO WARNING IS GIVEN THAT FLASHING TO STOCK 4.0.2 WILL WIPE YOUR DEVICE!

Wouldn't it make sense to assume that flashing anything could wipe your device and you should have adequate backups any time you attempt a flash of an OS?

From all I read, unrooting and flashing the recovery would not wipe my device. I was not the only person who thought that. Many here say that only unlocking and factory reset will wipe you device. What Wugs toolkit does is essentially a factory reset, only to the 4.0.2 stock since it rewrites the bootloader. There should be a warning!

That is true however anytime you are flashing anything glitches can happen and you need to redo it or you get a boot loop and have to wipe everything etc. It's always good to make a backup before doing anything. This is the same for working on any computer for the most part. And I do believe that there are warnings that anytime you flash anything after an unlock can cause problems.

Yeah so any time after that you have been warned.

This wasn't a case of a problem. Wug's toolkit when you flash stock and unroot wipes your device and is designed to do so. Just like a factory reset. There was no warning on Wug's toolkit that your device will be wiped and there should be.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it states that it rolls your phone back to stock and uses the example of as it came from the factory? Which is also why it's referred to as an OEM lock. I'm fairly sure your device didn't come from the factory with your data on it.

Wug's Support thread said:
OEM lock:
This will automatically:

Re-lock your device back to original equipment manufacture specifications.
You must use the "flash stock + unroot" feature first before being able to use this option successfully.

Did you just flash stock or did you do the whole relock process?

EDIT: NM found the answer

I don't think it relocks and then unlocks the phone. You have to do another step to lock the phone and I didn't do that step.

What I did left my phone unrooted running stock 4.0.2 but still unlocked.

my widgets stop updating after i got the update. only way i could bring them back to working condition is to reboot phone. then at some point they'd stop working again. is there a way to roll back to 4.02?

yes, but it wipes your phone. Use wug's toolkit and it will leave you unlocked (unless you use the lock feature) and unrooted running stock 4.0.2.

Gnex girl, did you not have your phone set up to automagically sync your photos? It's a nice feature.

While not a warning, it's clear enough for me. From Wug's website:

Backup Apps + Data:

This will automatically:

Initiate a backup of all your apps and app data
User will be prompted to enter a password on there device to protect their backup file
Once the backup is complete it will be stored on the users computer in the directory:
And the file name will automatically be generated as the date and time the backup was made
Note: this does not backup all of your SDcards contents: >>>So its up to the end-user to backup any picture or music files they have.<<<
This only backs up apps + app data
The user is given the option to backup system apps as well
