IMHO, this phone is a step forward in idling efficiency - I use battery saver, except the screen dimming feature of that. My old Moto X (2013) would drain 3% an hour, just idling. The HTC 1 M9 is sipping 1% per hour. Finally a phone that is as thrifty as my (work) iPhone on idle.

However, it's no good if you don't use it and screen on, it sucks more than I would expect, almost a percent per minute. I still need to do a proper comparison of screen on & off and a video test; if it won't do two full-length movies (as my Moto X would) I'll be disappointed. Right now I really wonder if I will. Still, I love the phone, its a huge step up in presence, performance and interface than the 2013 'X'. It gets through the day, with light use, but have not had a heavy day yet. I'll be taking a battery pack on my full-day trips.

Also - I have a quick charger. I might be using it a lot :-)

42% to 56% = 14%: 15 min ~ 1% per minute
42% to 72% = 30%: 30 min ~1% per minute
72% to 98% = 26%: 39 min ~0.6%/min to top off

At 1% drain per minute for SOT, that would be one hour and forty minutes from a full charge. You did say "almost" 1%, so I'm gonna assume you are getting around 2 hours of SOT from a full charge. That would certainly not be typical of the M9. I'm get between 5-5.5 hours of SOT from a full charge. You may need to dig a bit deeper and find what is causing the drain.

thanks - 5.5 hrs would be welcomed, and I'm hoping to see that when I do a controlled screen on test this weekend. I'll run a couple movies. Sitting down this AM for 10 min over breakfast for web browsing, with a strong wifi signal, drained it about 8% but dropbox was also active. So I need to make sure DB and other syncs are up to date & then run for a while.

media results look very good and I am happy with this, Web surfing is hitting the battery harder though and I've still got to do some competent measurements, which I'll do in the car tomorrow (long drive). Will be on mobile data the whole way though, not wifi

MEDIA TEST RESULTS
Media: 1080 p movie, mp4 @6K bps, 30 fps
1 hour 88% 12%/hour
2 hours 73% 13.5%/hour
3 hours 57% 14.3%/hour
Screen Brightness on auto, at 75%
Volume at 75%
HTC Battery saver on all settings except dim screen.

It is being reported on XDA that battery saver mode does not help much and that in some cases may hurt battery life. You may want to try it without battery saver for a couple of days just for a comparison between the 2.

I think in XDA they are reporting that CPU saver with Power Saving mode may do more harm than good because it shuts of the four A57 power clusters and only has the lower power four A53. The question remains how energy efficient those A53 are in the first place and without the heavy lifting of the A57 to power through some tasks you may end up just having the A53 running at 1.55 Ghz all the time. I've tried both and found nothing conclusive. What does make the biggest difference though is checking the Data Connection box. There are definite wake lock issues with the phone and that seems to calm them down.

That's what I said. LOL. Anyway what data connection box are you talking about?

Hmmmm...I guess you're right. Must be an echo in here.

Data Connection in the power saver setting.
