"Quick Charge" Feature Question Regarding HTC One

Greetings fellow HTC One owners!

I have been looking around the web for any information regarding this dreadful charging time for the HTC One. It seems that actual standard charging time for it to get fully charged to 100% is basically 3.5 - 4.5 hours. Basically 4 hours give or take. As much as I love the HTC One, this for me is an issue of concern. Waiting a couple of hours for my mobile phone to fully charge is OK but to have to wait 4 hours is simply ridiculous.

What I would really like to know is, does HTC One not having a quick charge option/feature/ability dependent on the OS/software or the hardware?

I chose the HTC One while my wife got the Galaxy S4. The S4 charges to 100% in 2-2.5 hours or less depending on how much juice is left compared to HTC One taking 4 hours or more. I tested the charging time for both phones (when battery was at 20%).

I found this very informative article below where it says "HTC One doesn?t support Qualcomm Quick Charge"...

and...

So back to my question... Is the ability to quick charge the HTC One based on the hardware or the software? 4 hours to fully charge is just unacceptable for me and as much as I love the phone, I will still have to take the practicality route and choose the phone that is supposed to make a mobile user's life much easier. If this lack of ability to quick charge is based on the hardware or lack of some piece of hardware that would enable it on the HTC One, then I will have to switch to the Galaxy S4. But if this issue is only software dependent and would eventually be fixed by some software or firmware update, then by all means, I will stay with my HTC One. I still have about 8 days left before the option to return the phone and exchange it for a different model is up.

Really hoping someone can help me out and share concrete information with this query. I sent an email to HTC but have yet to hear back from them...

There are kernels that will let you enable the Quick Charge feature, but it's not healthy for the battery and will shorten its lifespan. You can always buy an ultra slim battery cover like the Mophie JuicePack if need be, but of course that's a personal preference.

I keep hearing that, but why exactly would it hurt the life of the battery if it charged twice as fast? Wouldn't that mean less time on the charger, and overall more time spent in a charged state? With current Li ion tech, if you can keep it charged, it's advantageous to do so.

I have no idea, but that's HTC's official statements and also what users on the internet say.

The faster you charge, the more heat produced. Prolonged exposure(s) to heat are the enemy of your battery's lifespan.

Quick charge increases the amperage pushed to the battery. Putting more stress on all components involved. Im sorry 2 extra hrs of charge time is enough to make someone give up the HTC One for a GS4 the deficiencies the GS4 has are numerous, the camera at 1.1um has the smallest pixels in the industry vs 2.0um on the One the largest in the industry. It has one terrible mono speaker on the back of the device. Check out youtube videos on audio recording comparisons to see how not having HDR microphones will impact you. No 2.55v audio amplifier that feeds the speakers & headphone jack. The IR blaster has very limited range compared to the One. These are all verified facts & i could keep going 2 extra hours two charge is WELL worth a superior device to me. But its obviously very important to the OP for whatever reason. Switching to touch wiz from Sense 5 is going to suck if he does switch. I wish the OP luck but id really think about 2hrs of charge time & if it's worth it.
