I would like to overclock over the stocks kernels 800. Can I just flash a new overclocking kernel or do I also have to go with a custom ROM also?

All you need is root and SetCPU and you can go to 800 on the stock rom/kernel with Froyo.

ha I missed the "over". Aside from those pretty little benchmark scores, I've honestly seen absolutely no benefit in going over 800. You'll notice a lot more difference by loading one of the custom roms like Sapphire, SS, or Cyanogenmod and it really isn't anymore difficult than loading a new kernel.

Agreed. I had to have something over 1K just to piss off a buddy of mine that was getting on my nerves bragging about his brand new D2. Just a little one-upmanship between two friends. :)

I'm sure the question question will be "Which ROM is best?" and that's the million dollar question for the Droid. They're all slick, and I think it just comes down to personal preference.

I've played with BBv0.4, Sapphire 1.0, CM 6.0.0, and UD 7.0. All are nice, but I'm currently on UD7.0 with Watermark'D theme.

thanks for the replies. Overclocking was my first project. Installing one of the ROMs is my next. just wanted to try the overclocking to see if it real made any difference
