Hey guys,

Just a quick question. Do the apps that I've purchased on my Android phone transfer over to the Tab when I sign in using my gmail account? I don't have a Galaxy Tab yet,..I'm holding out for the WiFi only version.

Thanks

Yes they do. You can get a Tab from Verizon and cancel the 3G coverge 1 day after yet get it to make it wifi only. Its what I did. And then when and if you ever want to use 3g you can add it later.

But if you have to do a wipe you can have to activated again. Unless someone has found a work around.

Okay, just to extend that question a bit, when I ditch my POS Storm 2 for something (Mecha, please?) better, will I be able to use Tapatalk Pro, etc on both devices at the same time?

@rpitts9999 so obviously that would mean you paid full price and that you didn't go for the 2-year contract version right?

Thanks guys for all the replies.

Verizon Wireless does not offer a subsidized version of the Tab. IIRC, Only Sprint and T-Mobile are offering subsidized Tabs.

So if you are going to use the Tab wifi only, you could buy the Tab from anyone and hook it up with your VZ MIFI unit, correct? Or does Sprint and T-Mobile require a data plan to buy it.

But if you turn off 3G and then decide to turn it on, I heard you have to pay another $35 activation fee?

That's one thing the iPad has over this, you don't need 3G to activate the damn thing and you can go month to month and only pay for the months you need it. No activation fee, you don't even have to cancel anything...just don't prepay for the months you are not going to use it for.

Now, I have the opposite question. How can I be sure NOT to use 3g/data? I have a data plan, the smaller one, and I want to be sure that as I get close to that point, I don't go over. Is there a way to turn off the 3g signal? Or is this a dumb question --- I always fear asking one of those in these forums.

Yes, you can turn off the 3g/ data, as well as roaming. I bought the Sprint Tab last Saturday and have barely put it down, even on cross country flights where wifi was available and data usage info on Sprint.com shows hardly any data usage at all.
The displays on the Tab are a bit misleading. Even when the 3g/data network is deactivated, it will still show signal strength. Very confusing at first and I had to check a couple of times to make sure the network connection was disabled.

Great, good to know --- but how?

After you turn on the tab, hold the power button in for a couple seconds, a menu will pop up. Tap on the option to deactivate data network. The data network will be turned off until you turn it back on, even after powering down the Tab and restarting. You reactivate the data network the same way.

You can have to go into the settings section of the Tab to switch the Roaming settings around and turn on/ off.
