Quick Question...

I just got my first Droid last Thursday and this is my first time posting, so forgive me if this has been addressed. I tried searching too but found nothing (probably bc I have no idea what the feature is called)....

Anyway.... when you dial a # and you move the phone a little to put it up to your ear, the screen automatically seems to go black. Then, if you move the phone around a bit, the screen goes back on.

Since this is my first time with a touch-screen and i'm still getting used to the phone, I have accidentally called a few people. On other devices this isn't a big deal because I can quickly end the call. Well, since the screen goes black right away I really don't have any time to hit "End Call." So the call will ring a few times before I can turn it off.....and I feel like an idiot for calling someone by accident.

What is this feature? And can it be turned off?

why are you putting the phone up to your ear if you're not already on a call?

it's a proximity sensor that turns off the screen so you don't hit buttons with your ear when you're on a call.

afaik, you can't turn it off.
