Quit crying about Bixby

Here's the thing.

Is Bixby even that good to warrant its own dedicated button (that's now unmappable)?

Google Assistant is nice but I only use it to check the weather and create reminders. I haven't really fluffed much with AI-based assistants because they all have a ways to go before I find them truly useful without feeling awkward while using them. From what I've seen with Bixby, it doesn't seem to have that one killer feature that would make me go "Yes, I want this!". Maybe that might change when I give it a go, but as it stands right now, I'm not entirely convinced that Bixby is worth having its own dedicated button.

That's just my own 2 cents, though.

I hate that button. I've already hit it by accident while watching a youtube video.

samsung usually listens to its users. i bet an update will come that will allow the button to be remaped.

I don't think so since they specifically pushed an update to block it from being remapped.

I will preface this with, I have not used Bixby yet (My phone is not un-boxed yet, but when I get home...)
I have used other assistants like Cortana, I always feel silly using them. I do feel they can be useful, Say when you receive a txt and it's read to you via a BT earbud and you are prompted if you would like to respond. To my POV, that's useful functionality and a level of convenience. I watch people at work use Nuance "Dragon" speech products and I see the possibilities we may begin to enjoy. I will have to wait and see how this evolves.

Cheers,
BR

I don't cry about it. It's a hassle if you don't want to use it. It's being forced on me and there is no way to turn it off. If the option to turn it off will not be made available, S8 will be my last samsung phone. For rhe price I paid for the phone i should get to decide what features I want to use. See? Not complicated at all. Samsung forgets we do have other options. Just my $0.02

I personally have disabled it and any feature related to bixby through package Disabler

Actually Samsung is attempting to force me to use bixby by having the button there were I can press it about 5 times a day by mistake. And no I don't like that button right there or use bixby at all.

But actually your not being forced to use anything. If you don't like it don't buy it. You knew what the phone was when you bought it. You can't willingly buy something then say you were forced to use it. You may not like the feature and that's fine but you certainly aren't forced by any means.

I personally like Bixby, though as with any piece of tech, she will sometimes totally misunderstand my command and open something else, but it doesn't happen that much.

Also, the bonus Samsung Pay points is making me use Bixby a LOT, to the point where it's becoming a habit talking to her :)

That's no good. I never really used the "OK Google" feature, but it's pretty bad if they've removed it completely!

Any word on whether or not the touchscreen home button can be long pressed to activate Assistant?

It makes sense since it's not a Google phone. It DOES open with a long press of the home key when awakened from the home screen and when you say "Ok Google."

I use both interchangably, but obviously Bixby more.

They aren't forcing you to do anything. You knew it had Bixby when you bought it willingly. There are plenty of options out there if you want something else. You are not a victim

I guess the best thing for people not familiar with any given feature is to try before you buy when practical.

I was tired of hitting the bixby button by mistake so I simply used Package Disabler to disable Bixby. Because I was always hitting that button by mistake, I just left the button deactivated with nothing else assigned to it. There are options. You aren't being forced to use Bixby when you can simply disable it.

I did tried bixby as voice commands to make phone call are very important to me when I drive, unfortunately it don't like when you have names not in English, Google now have no problems and I'm more then happy to record it to prove it, everything else what Bixby has to offer works fine just the voice call dialing, yes Google can't wake the phone up from lock screen by voice but if you have Bluetooth connected is not a problem, press a button on bluetooth google will start to listen. If Samsung sort this I will comeback to use it but for now I will stay with Google.
