Most of you know that Google Play Newstand has replaced Currents. You can uninstall updates to Currents, and the first time you click its icon after installing the successor, there's a "b'bye" message and it's gone. No more Currents.

What they didn't tell us is ... no more Currents[-like] Daydream. I rather liked that Daydream, showing news from all my selected news sources. It made the Nexus 7 an interesting desktop "news ticker" while I worked.

Same recipe as they used with Hangouts. They offer Hangouts to handle all messaging, including SMS/MMS, wow, yay hurray, but forget to mention "Oops, we didn't give you any home screen/lock screen widgets to preview your SMS messages with, sorry." Pffft.

I just found this out while trying to download Currents. Not really a fan of the Newsstand.

I had forgotten.

Currents is alive and well on iOS. My iPod Touch's Currents works fine. Hrm....

Now I have to use Feedly to replace Currents. I can't read my Tech sites as well with Newstand that seems more about selling magazines than what Current provided. Feedly is close to Currents but not quite as good.

feedly doesn't meet my needs like currents did because currents auto updated the feeds correctly and reliably. newstand updates a couple feeds and gives up on the rest. I recently booted up my old samsung nexus phone and currents still worked. brought back fond memories.
