Radioshack warranty question for Optimus V (or any phone really)

I have the two year warranty and am sending it in to see if they can fix the static that is omnipresent no matter what is plugged into the audio jack. I am running CM9, do I need to return to stock?

Yes. You need to return your phone to 100% stock. Rooting your phone voids your warranty. There are a few threads on here, or search Google, on how to return your phone to stock. It's really not that hard.

In the future, before you root or do anything to your phone, I would recommend making a nandroid of your 100% stock phone, and then tuck it away in a safe place (your computer, a USB drive, etc) so that if you ever need it, all you have to do is load it on your SD card and restore.

Thanks. I assumed I'd have to.

I believe I did make a nandroid backup, but I think I deleted it afterwards. Ooops. I've seen the guides, it won't be hard to restore luckily.

Anyone have experience with radioshack's warranty process? I am hoping they just send me a new one.

When I had a defective intercept, I called them up and they transferred me to thier warranty department. I answered a few questions, and they over nighted me with an envelope to send my intercept to them. I dropped the package off at FedEx, and by the time I got home, I had an email with a gift certificate to buy a new intercept. Basically, as soon as they have confirmation your phone is on the way to them, they issue you a gift card. You can either have them mail it to you, or email it. Obviously having it emailed to you is much faster.

That is the only expierience I've had with them, and that was about 18 months ago. The rest of my phones have been purchased through best buy. Radio shack was very good about returns though. I had no problems. From the time I got off the phone with customer service, I had a new phone in less than 36 hours, and was only without a phone for less than 2 hours.

And just to be clear, not only do you want to return your phone to a stock ROM, but make sure the kernel and recovery are both stock as well. I've read reports of people forgetting to return thier recovery back to the stock recovery before sending in.

Basically, you want to return the phone to the way it comes out the box. Of course, you can have apps and what not on there, but no custom ROMs, Kernels, or Recoveries.

Sorry for the double post, just wanted to clarify.

I wonder how they do that process since the Optimus V has been discontinued. Gah, what phone would I get?!

Thanks for the heads up on the recovery info!

They do not send you a phone. They send you a gift card for the amount you purchased the phone for. you take that gift card to radio shack and do what you please with it.

I hope it is price you purchased for because I purchased mine when it was $199. I've read elsewhere that it was current price of phone. If that happens, I'm either getting EVO or switching to T-Mobile with the Galaxy Nexus.

That is correct. I appologize. They send you a gift card for the price the phone is currently at the store. They do cover state and / or federal taxes, though.

IIRC, I had $1.07 on my gift card after purchasing my replacement phone.

Sorry for the confusion.

This will be exciting to see what they do. I may opt for the physical gift card, sell it, then get a Nexus off the play store.

Any update on what they did for you? I'm getting ready to have to claim on warranty for my Optimum V that is no longer in stock.

For anyone searching for the answer here, I turned in my broken phone (Optimus V) after it was no longer being sold by Radio Shack. They said they would have to send off the phone and once it was recieved by the warranty company I would get an email gift certificate for the amount I originally paid for the phone (don't remember if it included tax or not). So that meant I:

1) Turned in my broken phone
2) Bought a phone out of pocket (paid with credit card) (and also bought a new warranty for $45 since the new device was $220).
3) Left the store
4) 1 week later got an email gift certificate for Radio Shack for $150+/- (what I originally paid)
5) Went back to Radio Shack. I "returned" my new phone and then "bought" another one. In readlity, they just refunded my purchase completely and then charged me again minus the $150 gift card. BONUS - the price dropped to $199 so I ended up paying $20 less AND the warranty now was only $35! NOTE - it was agreed when I bought the phone back at step 2 that they would do this for me.
6) I walked out without my $150 gift card and a $49 charge (plus tax and new warranty) on my credit card.

So, they do give you the amount you originally paid, but you'll have to figure out how to have a phone for the week in between turning it in and getting the new phone. If your Radio Shack is cool, they may work with you as they did me.
