RAM in Fascinate

325MB is the total on my fascinate, but the system performance is fast, i can't complain at all

Yes, there's 512, this has been confirmed for a while. The way the Galaxy S series of devices utilize memory is different than other devices. This is why the OS shows on 325 or whatever. Every Galaxy S does this, not just the Fascinate, but they all have 512.

Can you link to where this has been confirmed, I haven't seen where it says "Yes this has 512MB RAM"

I don't have the big forum link at work, but here's the screen shot comparing the ATT Capitvate to a Fascinate. Epic shows the same thing.

This was briefly a big deal too, when noticed after the Captivate came out. It's all posted over at the xda site, it has to do with Samsung using two memory chips rather than one.. Trust us, it's 512.

Part of the reason the Galaxy phones are so smooth is the phone reserves a 128 MB chunk of ram for the OS to use as a virtual drive, leaving 384 MB usable. No, you can't load any thing in to that chunk of RAM, but you won't get your phone to lag because the memory is full. I think it is a good trade off.

I would rather they had added another 128 to the phone, but it is what it is. I haven't run out of RAM in the D1 yet, so I'm not terribly worried I will fill up the Fascinate. With a 2.2 upgrade, it will matter even less, as you can keep more stuff on the SD card.

YMMV, void where prohibited, etc.

If you're worried about Gingerbread, you'll be fine. If anything currently on the market can run Gingerbread, it'll be the Galaxy S. It's pretty much the hardware king in most areas, especially GPU.
