The S10e has 6 gb of ram.

I was surprised when checking out my storage that I had only 2gb left.

There was also a message that to increase the memory I should close unused apps.

I did so and wound up with with 2.3 gb free. Rest is used for system and apps, but I'm not using any apps. Confused.

Multitasking the Android Way explains the whole thing (by one of the developers), but basically, unused RAM is wasted RAM, so Android fills as much RAM as it can - always. When you manually kill an app, if Android needs that app running (there are processes in some apps that are used by others), it reloads it. Let Android manage RAM - it does a good job. (If you load an app that really needs 4 or 5GB of RAM, Android will kill background apps to make room - and that takes nanoseconds.)
