Random Reboots

I've been getting 1-2/week with my Thunderbolt. Not rooted. Haven't been able to tie it to any apps I'm running. No rhyme or reason with what I'm doing at the time, though it may have something to do with being plugged in/charging. I don't recall it doing anything when it's not plugged in (though it's almost always plugged in). I am running Go Launcher and Go Locker, but I don't think those have anything to do with it.

Would rooting help? I had rooted my last phone (the venerable old Droid Eris) and just haven't gotten around to it with the TBolt.

Any help is appreciated.

It seems that random reboots are a result of the 4G network since every 4G phone experiences them. I was lucky enough not to have downloaded the MR1 update that made this a big problem for some Bolt owners, but I did have a 2 week period a couple months ago where it happened every time I drove through a certain part of my city. Like clockwork, the phone would reboot at the same place, and I chalked it up to a network issue since it never happened any other time. Then, after a couple of weeks, it stopped doing it, and hasn't done it again since.

I don't know what's causing your phone to randomly reboot, but it might just be something as simple as Verizon tweaking the tower near you. Do the reboots happen at various locations? at the same location every time? Are you in a fringe coverage area with poor reception? It seems like HTC has worked out most of the kinks with the Bolt, which is why I'd focus on the network to try and figure out what's going on.

And unfortunately, I'm not rooted so I don't know if it would help or not.

I'm rooted running roma and haven't had a RR this year. I also dont use 4g though.

Also no random reboots here in my 4G area. They've been gone ever since I rooted and put BAMF 1.09 on my phone. I also haven't found any need to update to 1.10 or 1.11 BAMF updates. The root and ROM solved all my problems appropaching a year ago, so I would join the root & ROM camp to settle your phone down and make it a flawless as possible.

unfortunately root doesn't solve the problem. I am rooted with skyraider zeus and I get 3-4 random reboots a week. :(

I think i've had 2 random reboots in the last 7-8 months, not rooted, don't always use 4G but I use it quite a bit. Not sure if it's your area or your phone. I would call and complain, maybe you'll get a new phone before the warranty expires.

Agreed. I haven't had a reboot on my stock, first, March 17th 2011 Thunderbolt since prolly June/July of 2011. Even then, only a few up to that time. I'm in/out of 4G all the time. In, most of the time. I don't know what I attribute my luck to but I simply didn't ever really have an unexpected reboot issue.

Your Problem may be because you are running Go Launcher and Go Locker with a non rooted device. I had Go Launcher on my Thunderbolt before i rooted it and it was doing 3-4 reboots a day. I suggest uninstalling Go Launcher and Go Locker and just go with what your phone has or Root your Thunderbolt.

The odd thing is that it seems to be tied to the phone being plugged in. It doesn't do it when the phone is unplugged, or has been plugged in for a while - it's only at the moment it gets unplugged or even jostled sometimes when plugged in. I may try uninstalling Go Launcher/Locker and/or rooting. How about rooting and keeping the Go apps?

My Bolt keeps rebooting for no apparent reason... It can happen when I am home and on WiFi, it can happen when I am out and about, it can happen when I click on an app, and it can happen when the phone is just sitting there, it can happen when it's charging and it can happen when it's not on a charger. There doesn't seem to be any consistency in when it decides to reboot but it is getting very annoying!

I had several tb. They all reboot or shut down on their own. Verizon's solution was to switch me to a rezound under warranty, which fixed my random reboot and power down problem.

I stopped in VZW tonight to pick up a powerstation portable battery. Before I purchased it, I was telling the sales associate about my reboot issue and that I had it on my old TB and the replacement TB I just got a month ago under my warranty. She looked up my account and then told me she could replace it under my warranty for a Rezound. So I guess I will be switching forums next week when my Rezound arrives (just hope it comes early enough so that I can set it all up before I leave on a trip!). I also ended up not spending the $70 on the portable powerpak - I will wait to see if the battery life is better with the Rezound first.

Several random reboots for me on my stock TBolt recently. It has happened twice while I was on a call. VERY annoying since my Bolt takes almost 10 minutes to reboot.
