Random Shutdown and Reboot in 5.0.1

Hello all. I'm at my wits end and am hoping someone can help. I've got a nexus 5 running lollipop (5.0.1) and the phone will randomly shutdown or reboot. I've tried a factory reset as well as clearing the cache after the reset. That did not solve the problem. I'm hoping its not a harware issue but given that I don't have a single app other than the default google apps installed, I'm not very hopeful. Can anyone offer up some ideas on what might be the problem and how to fix it? Thanks.

Yeah it is totally free of third party software and it's updated. It's really strange. I'll try and boot into safe mode and see if that works. I've been reading that there are some issues with the power button so I'm trying the jiggle and hard press but and things seem to be behaving a little better.

So I think I've narrowed it down to the power button. I'm getting cases where I hit the power button to wake the phone up and it flashes on then off. Or sometimes I'm going to turn it off and it flashes back on like I double hit the power. Any suggestions on how to replace the power button?

I'm out of warranty. Is it even worth calling them?

It's definitely worth the call. I'm having a problem with my unit, I'm also outside warranty (albeit by only a few weeks, but out of warranty nevertheless), and they are replacing mine. Customer service was terrific.

I tired and failed. I'm about 2 months out of warranty (this was actually and replacement one already). They told me to call LG who will want to replace the whole motherbaord. About $90 from a local shop to replace it. I think I may just buy a new phone.

I'm having the same problem with my Nexus 5. Done a factory reset, no help. You mentioned that you thought it might be a hardware error. Were you able to resolve your problem?

Thanks

Never was able to resolve. I am 99.9% sure it is a bad power button. I couldn't get a good estimate on the repair but it is beyond my soldering skills so I just installed the gravity app and am milking it until I just can't take it anymore or until there is a replacement I really want that isn't an LG phone.

Thanks for replying. I called LG about the problem. They asked me to send them the phone and they would check it out - it's out of warranty so they said if any repairs are needed, there might be a fee. They are paying for shipping both ways, so I'm going to send it to see what happens. Worse case it costs too much to fix and they will return it. I'll let you know what happens.

Thanks for the info. Will be interesting to hear what they say. So they just call you with an estimate to fix it?

Not sure what I did, but the problem has stopped. I was preparing my phone to ship to LG and I took out the sim card to put in my other phone. I then needed to reinstall the sim card in my Nexus 5, and the random crashing stopped. Been three days now. Not sure if removing the sim card had anything to do with it, but might want to give it a try. I recently updated to 5.1, but the crashing problem still happened after updating. It wasn't until I removed the sim that the problem stopped.

I had exactly the same problem as you described. I thought it was from power button so I opened the back of the phone and checked the button for any dirt or loose connection. It wasn't power button. I have done "wipe cache partition" and seems that worked so far. It has not shut down for 2 days. I hope it does not happen again.
