Randomly getting no audible notification

I'm receiving emails, WhatsApps and texts through the day. But I'm not always receiving audible sounds for every email or message. The phone vibrates for every notification. I've tried rebooting the phone, adjusting the call volume to no avail.
Any ideas or suggestions?
