rapid charge not charging faster?

I have a Pixel 2 (non-XL) and have been using the stock wall charger. Charging from 20% to full takes about 1hr 30min to 1hr 35min. It's a bit slow but still reasonable. Lately I try charging it with a 3rd party 2.4A/12W A-to-C charger I got from Amazon, and the charging speed is the same despite only showing "charging" without "rapid". I supposed the stock 3A/18W C-to-C charger should charge faster then a 2.4A/12W A-to-C? It seems that we all want to do "rapid charge" but what's the point if "rapid charge" is not actually faster?

The 3rd party charger I have is a iClever dual port A-to-C. Each port produces 2.4A/12W.

I know the stock charger 2A at 9V for the 18W. My Pixel 2 XL is functional capped at 10.5W for charging per Nathan K

https://www.xda-developers.com/google-pixel-2-xl-charging-speed-functionally-capped/
From the article:

"He suggests that the reason for the slow charging speed on the Pixel 2 XL is that Google and LG are trying to avoid putting strain on the battery in order to maximize its longevity."

I'd believe it. LG has been very aggressive with throttling charging on their own phones, and I'm sure they do it on their Google ones as well. Simply turning the screen on my V20 kills the charging rate even if the phone is cool.

Also, them referring to wattage add "current" instead of power is driving me bonkers.

I hope to keep Pixel 2 XL longer than I was able to keep my Nexus 6P.... it's battery was stressed by over-volting (settings beyond my control) and overcharging (my fault)..... Now my max charge target is 80%. By the time I made the change most of the damage was already done to my 6P...

How long does it take to get from 20 to 50 or 20 to 80?

How did it get over voltage charging? Was it a defective charger or something?

I've been keeping a log in Keep of battery charging times for partial charges. I don't let my battery get down to see 20%. However, I've seen my 2 XL battery charge from 33% to 73% in 31 minutes. From 39% to 91% in 38 minutes. I think that's pretty good.

Here's my raw data. This is using the stock charger with a 6.6 ft. cable (I don't think the length of the cable is a factor)

Edited to add: Don't know why there are extra line spaces in my copy-paste job when I post the data. Don't see them until I hit send. Oh well.

Are you using the Tapatalk app? They did something in the last couple of months that caused this.

Yes, I am. I've also noticed the ability to post images using Tapatalk is basically gone. And frequently when copying-and-pasting links to other posts on the same forum you get random results. That is, you might post a link to a thread about battery life and instead your link goes to a totally different post about fingerprint sensors.

It doesn't even have to be a link from the same site. At least on the AC Forums app (which is based on Tapatalk), it's not uncommon to link to something like Amazon, only to have the app/site change it to look like some sort of AC redirect link that basically just refreshes the thread I'm in.

I prefer a slower charge as it is easier on batteries of all types. I generally charge before going to bed and it usually takes about 90 min.

Nothing wrong with charger battery was always set to hit 4.4V.... most Lithium batteries it's 3.7V to 4.2V.... seams like a small difference but it shortens lifespan by over stressing

A lot of modern cellphone Li-ion/Lipo batteries have a graphite additive in them that does safely let them charge at a little higher voltage. 3.85V resting and 4.4V when charging. So I wouldn't work about that.

I'm having same issue , says rapid charging then next to it 4 hours to charge and it's at 45% right now ...tried different chargers which was also fast chargers same thing

Mines even worse says rapid charging and going to take 11 hrs

Pretty much the same using stock (rapid) and 3rd party (non-rapid) charger. Again, I have a 5" Pixel 2.

20% to 50% - 25 to 30 minutes
20% to 80% - 55 to 60 minutes
20% to 100% - 90 to 95 minutes

to 80% doesn't seem too bad.

And that's really the goal of fast charging. It will slow down as percentage increases.

Well I do think that the charging performance on my Pixel 2 is reasonable. I just think that this rapid charge technology with the stock charger (3A/18W USB-C PD) is very misleading. When we get additional chargers for our new phones, we all try to find the best charger that can do rapid/fast charge. But in reality, for Pixel 2, a 2.4A USB-A charger that I bought 3 years ago produce the same charging performance.
