Razr freaking out

My wife uses my old Razr, which was purchased back in October/November 2011on launch day. It is stock, running ICS. The phone has started to go a little crazy on her. She taps Text Messaging, and the Play Store opens up. She closes it, hits Text Messaging again, and Contacts opens. She has also had problems with the keyboard just typing random characters, which I can actually verify because I have received these unreadable messages. I did a factory reset on Saturday, and the phone seemed fine after that, but then it started acting up again today.

I'm not sure what I can do at this point, as we don't have insurance on it, and my upgrade is not due until July or August. I know that if I call VZW, they will probably just give me the "too bad" line of bs. Obviously I know I can buy some sort of replacement on eBay, or here in the forums, but who's to say the same thing won't happen? Anyone else have these issues with the phone? Of course this all started AFTER the 1 year warranty was up.

Is there a time it seems worse than others? I've seen this happen because of a bad USB cable, and outside on cold, dry days (I think from static in the air).

Blackops: That sounds like a pretty good idea, especially if all else fails. I don't know if that would solve the problem though. If there is something wrong with the hardware, I don't think a ROM would fix it.

MoonCatt: I think it mostly acts up when she's at work. It doesn't seem to happen at home, at least not when I'm around!

Could simply be an environmental issue, or maybe the quality of the electrical source if it's plugged in there. If it's environmental, turning the screen off and back on usually fixes it. If it's a noisy electrical source she's plugged into, there may not be a convenient way to fix it. The screens pick up and interpret the electrical charge in our fingers. If that is interfered with, it can cause wonky things to happen and trying other ROMs isn't likely to fix it. It may be a hardware defect in the phone, but I kinda doubt it since it seems to only happen at her work.
