Razr Maxx False Notifications after ICS

It's seems like after I upgraded to ICS, I am getting false notification alerts - audible alert goes off 5, 10 or even 15 times in a row with no new messages, etc. It's random when it happens - but the only solution I have found is to turn off the volume! I tried a soft reset, which didn't help. Searching seems like others have had this problem and it is somehow tied to email accounts. I have Gmail, hotmail and my work email installed on stock client. Hotmail never seemed to receive new messages for some reason, so I turned Sync off on hotmail, but that didn't help. I tried to remove Hotmail, but it says "Invalid credentials". I just disabled "email notifications" for hotmail, but since it isn't syncing anyway I doubt that will help get rid of the notifications.
This is a really annoying issue!

Any ideas on how to get rid of the False Notifications or how to remove Hotmail from Email account? (I am using stock email client)

To assume it's the email account... I'd assume it was an app, not the email account... but that is me. I'd start looking at other apps... Facebook to name just one... there are numerous sync settings in Facebook.

To remove any email account or any account that syncs... Settings > Accounts & sync > press on the account you want to remove > Menu > Remove account.

Thanks for the advice. The only apps I had syncing (to my knowledge) were Gmail, hotmail, and my work email. I may be the only one without Facebook setup on my phone! I spent more time searching on this issue today, and everything I found pointed to a corrupt email account setup as the problem - something about an issue with the security certificate... Since there was no way to remove the Hotmail account (Remove option isn't visible which surprised even Verizon Tech Support), the only solution I could find for people having this problem was a factory reset. Finally had wasted enough time on this problem, so decided to hard reset phone this afternoon. And, so I did...

Corrupt hotmail account is now gone. :)
False notifications also appears to have disappeared.. :)
So, hopefully my problem is solved!
