So I'm trading my crappy iPhone 4 on xda, and I've been offered a Thunderbolt, and a Droid RAZR. But the RAZR is purple and I'm a male. The purple doesn't bother me as much, but it looks weird for a male, but I could just put a case on it. Which one should I choose?

Thunderbolt is old technology already by todays standards. Plenty of cases out there that will cover the purple.

Droid Razr is definitely a better phone, and unless you're willing to root, you'll never get any software upgrades for the thunderbolt.

Purple and pink aren't girl colors, they're just colors that happen to be associated with females. Girls can like blue and red, and guys can like pink and purple. It's not gay to like a color. It's gay to have attraction to males.

The RAZR without a doubt.

The technology of the iPhone 4 (I'm assuming you do not mean 4S or else you would have said that) is comparable to the Thunderbolt. The RAZR is a step above. The RAZR would be more comparable to the 4S (if you like iCrap and hate 4G).

And as mentioned above, there are plenty of cases to cover the purple. My preferred case is the Otterbox Commuter series, which should cover all of the purple. But I do understand your hesitation to take a purple phone. Arguments about purple being a girl color aside, I simply don't like the look of any phone that isn't black, white, or silver/gray. But there are plenty of options for cases to cover the color, and I would use a case no matter the color. These top-of-the-line Android phones are not cheap, and I simply do not trust the phone to withstand my daily abuse without a case.

Razr if you want locked bootloader motorola junk

If he has the option to take a 1.2 ghz dual core with 1 gb of RAM or a 1 ghz single core with 768 mb of RAM, the RAZR wins, locked bootloader or not. If he doesn't like the locked bootloader, he could then trade the RAZR for a Rezound, which is the Tbolt on steroids. I have seen plenty of straight trade offers on Craigslist going both ways between the RAZR and Rezound.

Actually, HTC and Verizon have announced ICS for the T-Bolt (no telling when). I would definitely take the Razr over the T-Bolt (even though it's pentile the qHD screen is a lot better than the WVGA screen on the T-Bolt). You might also ask if you can pay a little extra for the Razr Maxx (that battery, with the phone only 8.9mm, is awesome for using the phone).

Purple? You wanna risk losing your man card? Might as well get a HTC Rhyme! :-[ Just kidding :p

You should ask this in the Thunderbolt forum! Bet you'd get very different answers! ;)

While the Thunderbolt is older, it still has a few things over the RAZR, replaceable battery (must have IMO!), native kickstand (killer feature!), and a large established root community with numerous ROMS (if you're into that). :)

There are several ROM options for the RAZR these days, as well.

But I will give you the battery and the kickstand. The battery is not an issue for me, but I know for most people, it is a major issue. And you never realize how useful the kickstand is until you have one. That was the only thing my friend complained about after moving to the Charge from the Tbolt.

Well, the person for some reason traded it to someone else, but I got an offer for a Droid Bionic.

One thing I do miss about my old Tbolt us the killer camera, that thing took awesome pics in light, low light, people moving around a lot (captured the still frame instead of a blur). I really like a good camera on a phone but I'm really upset Moto can never seem to produce a good camera and camera software. If u don't care about any of that, get the Razr.

Did they really? I read a few months back that they were never going to do any upgrades, just bug fixes from then on. Could you possibly link me to where you read this?

Tbolt has the same, no? I was able to root it.
I don't know what motorola has been doing since Droid 1, but that was the easiest phone in the world to root.
Knowing the devs out there today, no matter what they stick on a phone or how unrootable they're supposed to be, they'll get root access.

Thunderbolt owner here. Running thundershed 1.5 and I'd still say go with the razr, its a better phone, and will have just as large a rooting community as the device ages. Remember how long it took for the thunderbolt to get rooted, and then devs to get ROMs on it?
Kickstand is a plus.
