RCS Messages question.

How do i know if my texts are sent via RCS. On my pixel 4 XL it says connected for chat features. But when i send texts to other android phones, it says sent via SMS. Does that mean the other person doesn't have RCS enabled ?

Hi, yes. I have a Pixel 3 XL and RCS chat enabled. Basically, unless the Android device is a Samsung or another Pixel phone with RCS enabled it'll just be a text message. If you're talking to another user who has Samsung Android phone with RCS enabled or a pixel user with RCS enabled it'll say chat message otherwise it'll just be a regular SMS text message. I hope this helps. at least for me and my opinion, it's very annoying and frustrating how that all works. Most people in my life have iOS or they don't have RCS enabled. So most of my messages are text messages not chat messages.

The other end has to be on RCS also or it will say sms

Honestly, the only helpful input I can suggest is I hope one day that Apple allows RCS on iOS devices. If they don't, most of us, at least myself, will never see a chat message unless you have a chat enabled device on the other end of your conversation thread. Lol.

I only have 1 contact that also uses RCS. So, the RCS feature for me, is almost null and void.

Also it will say delivered and read next to the message if it is RCS.

Hey ,man I do agree with you about it.. the feature is almost null and void to me as well unfortunately. It's such a shame to, because it's a pretty cool feature. Whenever I send media (pictures and videos) from my phone to other people, the majority of the time, I'm sending it via Google photos. I try to send it via Google photos the majority of the time, because 1. It's just easier, and 2. Google photos doesn't compress images or videos like regular SMS text messages do, that's for sure. In Today's day and age as well, most people do have Google photos Downloaded and installed in their phones as well.
