re-rooted after kit kat, auto hide soft keys not working

I have a similar issue, I can get the keys to pull up but the damn swipe up Voicemate/search/quick memo thing keeps popping up too, and I forget how I disabled it last time on 4.2.2

Mine is not working at all but when I flip it to landscape it works fine. One of the main reasons I rooted...sucks.

You can use the immersive mode app. It works with kit kat and root is not needed.

Could it be that you Animator Duration Scale set to off in Developer Options? This caused a new problem on KitKat with status bar knock-off. Maybe try setting it to a non-zero value.

Try Gravity Box module for Xposed. Full Immersive mode, works as good if not better than GMD Auto Hide.
