Reaction to Retina Scan?

That disclaimer is very standard. It's referring to the bright LED , not the scanner itself. You should follow the same precautions regarding the regular LED in the back, it'll cause eye pain as well. As far as the seizure thing, that's the exact same disclaimer I've seen at the beginning of every video game I've ever played. If your not epileptic you won't have issues.

I do recall seeing this warning when initially setting up the iris scanner. I'm not sure why people are interpreting it in the most convenient way. It clearly says not to stare into the scanner at less than 20cm.
It's not a regular LED bulb like your notification LED that flashes. It seems like a more concentrated/focused LED beam. Think like those green laser beams that people were shining at the airplanes a few months ago, just tuned down. Lol. (that's my understanding don't kill me.) either way I've stuck with facial recognition and the FP scanner.

Well yea...if you put your eyes centimeters away from any flahing light, it's going to hurt. Has nothing to do with the sensor itself.

Yes, it does. The specific type of sensor being used can cause damage to your eyes if it's used too closely.

The sensor is just a camera. A special camera but That's it. The red thing you see when you use iris recognition is NOT the scanner. It's just a red IR LED. Not to much different in idea than the IR LEDs you'll see in every remote control ever. It's just a lot brighter. All it is is the "flash" for the iris scanners special camera. Yes, looking at the RED LED you see up close can hurt your eyes. But so will looking directly at my 3w LED flashlight up close. Nothing different there. It says to hold it a certain distance due to focal length. The iris scanners camera is preset to focus within that range. Just like the other camera's, get too close and it's out if focus. So it can't read anything.

I think the iris scanner was not the best idea. Not only is it creepy looking at your own eyes on the screen, someone can still unlock the device with your picture. On top of that, you risk damaging your eyes with the infrared sensor. Fingerprint scanner and iris scanner was a fail. Should have made the fp scanner on the center of the back like most phones.

Unlocking device with picture only works with facial recognition. Totally different than iris scanner. Iris scanner doesn't look at your face st all. You only see your face while using it because it's for you to use as a reference for proper placement of your eyes. Iris scanner takes picture of your iris patterns. Unless someone has a high resolution infrared image of your iris, they won't be able to fool the sensor.

You can't fool it with a photo it's easier to replicate somebody's fingerprints than it is to replicate a person's iris. Iris recognition has been around for years. It doesn't need bright light to work. The IR LED is so low power that it would take hours of uninterupted IR LED light shining in your eye to cause any damage. You get more damage from normal daylight than you would from IR LED light.

What are you talking about? Iris scanner and facial recognition are two different things. You can't fool an Iris scanner.

It's very hard to fool the facial recognition as well. If you lose your phone, they don't know who you are.

Are you just going off something you read or did you try it? I don't think the iris scanner can be fooled by a picture. Do you mean face unlock?

I use FP sensor only but still doesn't make any sense that an Iris can be fooled by a photo.

i am sure it is all in my head, but my brain still thinks the iris scanner is going to fry my eyeballs
