Hi,
I have a N7 2013. 32G
I also have a good chuck of music, a portion of it on an old IpodTouch, for a total of about 24G
I also have an OTG cable and a 32G USB stick
I want to put all my music trough my N7.
I donot want to load my music on my N7 (not enough memory)
I'm looking for an music app that would allow me to ''read only'' from the USB stick (not copy like the Nexux Media Importer does) and listen either one tune after after another or randomly.

Thanks

I would suggest: PlayerPRO

It is my favorite music player. It has a folder feature where you can search for music in other places. You can probably do this when you connect the USB.

I would suggest trying it out (trial) to see if it suits your needs: PlayerPRO Trial

Also, you can set Nexus Media Importer to not copy. In fact I think that's the default setting.

But free ones include ES File Explorer, Astro, etc.

Nexus Media Importer will work but I don't believe that other apps can natively see a drive attached via OTG.

Thanks, that's what I thought too. I'll have to check next time I use the meenova.

What do you mean? There are plenty of apps I use that read OTG USB just fine. They read it as an SDCard.

Nexus Media Importer will automatically stream music and videos using the native Android players.

Right. What I meant in my post was that other apps (e.g., MX Player, PowerAmp) on a non-rooted device cannot directly see/browse/load the OTG-mounted USB drive independently of something like Nexus Media Importer.

True, but only one song at the time. Each tune has to be handled individually
Nexus media importer is not a music player. It loads the tablet memory then, a music player can take it from there.
I could not find any app yet that will import from USB and play without storing on the tablet
Same for a GPS data...(maps)

The only way you'll be able to that would be to root and then use Stickmount to mount the USB device:

Not trying to hijack this thread, but does Nexus Media importer (or any other app) allow the Nexus 7 to read from a phone instead of a USB flash drive?

I've got a couple old Galaxy Nexus 32 GB that work great. However, the screen is smaller and the resolution is not as crisp.

Is there any way to connect these, so my Nexus 7 can read the content from the GNEX?

Why don't you just take the content from the galaxy nexus and put it on the nexus 7?

Could and probably would, but I was just curiousif it was possible. Right now, I've been using my Nexus 7 on VZW as my primary device. My actual VZW phone---the GNex has no sim--and is used solely as a Flash Drive, MP3 Player, and handset for Skype calls, while on Wifi.

Just curious if it was possible, since I probably won't purchase any standalone USB flash drives for awhile.

Ah, I see. So I guess you can say your GNexus is a smart usb? :P
