Hey guys, i have had my NC for about 2 weeks now and really am missing out on the other books I am able to get with the other reader aps (on my phone) that the Barnes and Noble store doesnt carry. I want to root so I can install the Kindle, Nook and Google Books apps(among other things) but am left wondering, how does the Nook app compare to the pre-root full blown Nook? Am I still able to read books for free at Barnes and Noble stores with just the app for example? Will i be missing out on certain things? Also I briefly saw that you can have the root experience off an SD Card. Does this mean you are able to keep the nook stock or run it rooted off the card? Thanks.

If you just root it (not change to cm7 or hc or anything like that), you don't lose any of the original nook. When you press the n button, you can pick your launcher- Home for the normal nook and whichever custom launcher you install to go to the tablet area (for kindle etc). Root off of SD is going to be a custom ROM usually. They're good, but if you want to have your regular nook easily accessible, just root stock. If you run a rooted custom ROM off of the SD to get back to regular nook (or vice versa) requires a reboot. It's easy and relatively safe (you can recover it from just about anything. Long and short, root stock for everyday use - run off sd for fun/if you want a more tablet-y experience.

the nook app for android in my opinion is junk. I'm going to agree with rydo and say just root it don't change the OS and use the nook OS for nook books and then install the others with the other launcher

Best option for you would to be running CM7 off SD card. [HOW-TO] Download and Install CM7 to Run Off SD Card

When your SD card is in Boom full tablet, pull it out and it boots into normal nook. Although flashing it to the internal memory is much faster if you want to keep the custom nook UI just use the SD card method.
